Free worldwide delivery, got a few books I've been meaning to get for ages today. Nice layout to the site too, handy for browsing!

Tis decent site,i used it loads but lately have changed due to...

    1. There was a crazy disparity between euro and sterling prices,i think this may have changed back to normal (anyone confirm?)
    2. I use amazon.co.uk when spending over 25 pound (free super saver delivery) the delivery is much faster (i got my books in 3 days) compared to bookdepository.co.uk

I don't meant to bad mouth bookdepository because i used to order allot but lately they seem to have got a bit greedy/lazy.

It's still worth checking the bookdepository ,they can be cheaper than amazon and vice versa.

defo i shoulda stressed that,i check both and then decide largely based on price tbh

I used this site recently and was really happy with it. I got 2 books for €19. Amazon wanted €30 for the same two books. Delivery took less than a week, would definately use them again.

They send out 10% off vouchers every so often in their newsletter. I got a few good deals with one before christmas but I always check amazon as well, especially with a big order over £25. The postage time took about 4 to 5 days, roughly the same as a book I had from amazon at the same time so maybe they've improved? It used to be around a fortnight when I first started using them.

Another one worth checking out is www.awesomebooks.com. its a second hand book site, although I think they now sell new books. A lot of the books are £1.99. I find it especially good for older editions of books I wanted to help me with my social studies course, like giddens sociology, Gross Psychology and many others I can't remember. These are huge texts that were £1.99 and delivered free.

I think thebookdepository.co.uk is an amazing site.

ive used bookdepository a few times now and find them great price wise.
i have ordered a few books in the past however and one or two days later received an email saying the "book is out of stock and money will be refunded". find this very annoying especially round xmas when i thought i had a few pressies sorted easily through online shopping to find out a few days later my orders were cancelled and it was too late to go ordering elsewhere as it would not be delivery in time for xmas day!
surely in this day and age when your placing your order to begin with or when browsing the site they can tell you if a book is in stock or not?!?

I used to buy books from the bookdepository.co.uk at least once a week but then the books started to arrive battered and bent.

Originally they were sent in a tough cardboard surround but then they started with that crappy bubble wrap envelope packaging. I know that most of the books left their hands in good condition (though with some the damage was not the normal postal damage you expect!) and it's more the post offices fault for breaking spines and the like but at the same time if they just stuck to the packaging that worked all would have been good.

Because of this I can't really justify paying full price for books that are worse than second hand. I also mailed a complaint to them about 18 months ago and still haven't gotten an answer.

It's a shame as I really liked their selection!

    Anyway just my 2c!

www.bookdepository.com can be slightly cheaper than the .co.uk site sometimes.Usually only by a euro at most.
Worth remembering that amazon.co.uk have free delivery if you spend more than €25.As a result fi you're buying two or more books they can work out cheaper than bookdepository sometimes.

Is it the Book Depository who sell off library books in the States? I seem to recollect getting sacks of 1950s-1960s scifi books that were being recycled from California- but I'm damned if I can remember where I ordered them from. That and the 5 months it took them to deliver the sacks (literally Deutsche Post postal sacks, stitched closed- not boxed or anything).........

bought a good few books from BD. Never any issue with the bubble wrap, books in good cond.
They are nearly always cheaper than bookshops here in only one case could i get it cheaper in a book shop here so i did. gave up amazon the postal cost means it is cheaper in a books hop here. unless you go over £25. Be aware that while BD dot com can be cheaper in some cases the reverse is also true sometimes BD dot UK is cheaper

Also for the month of March 5% off.

I'm another one who uses the book depository site, but like other posters, I also check amazon. (In fact I just got a book delivered from them today, order 1 week ago).
I have even bought from Reads on Nassau street, which is good if you need the book in a hurry, or would prefer to browse first.
It's a wonder Eason's still does so much business, with the internet. And as for Hughes and Hughes - sad to see them go. There's a lesson there for greedy landlords!

Thanks a million OP, found two books at relatively the same price as on amazon without the delivery charge. The only thing that was holding me back was that amazon doesn't take paypal and the way I work I always use paypal.

I can't seem to find a paypal option onthe book depository. Or a place to put in that 5% code. Am I missing something??

That's a five page thread. Could you link to the part that explains how that online bookstore isn't good value?

Think you might mean www.betterworldbooks.com. I've used them a couple of times, can work out cheaper than UK sites even with $4 delivery per book and you can also locate some hard to find titles (Blood of Spain in my case)

    It's a 2 page, n00b :pac:

But ya I do not see anything in that thread either about online not being a bargain.

I'm presuming the point they're making is that by us buying from that site (which I do now and again) we are contributing to the demise of shops like hughes and hughes which reduces choice and ends up increasing prices and the unemployment rate in Ireland which increases the requirement for additional tax which reduces the amount of discretionary spend that we have for stuff like ye know - books!

    though i could be wrong.

I would stick with amazon most of the time because I'd most likely be buying a couple of games or dvds too, good to be able to get them all at once

I just got pissed off as the books I was buying weren't cheap! Mostly specific topic chemistry books costing well over the €50 mark. And when they didn't answer I just said well fu*k them!

Anyway it might not be an issue for everyone (obviously it isn't) but just be aware that cheap(er) though they might be, sometimes it pays to spend the extra and get what you expect!

The main sticking point with them was the damage my books had received.

I paid for NEW HArd Back books therefore I should get my books in NEW Hard Back condition not smashed in on the corners.

The padding / packaging was non existant on my orders.

Just something to bear in mind if you like to have your books on a book shelf like I do.

But yea, get the point. Still trying to get my 5% discount here. They don't seem to want to get it for me.

    I love www.betterworldbooks.com
There is always a coupon available for 10% or more off and the postage has increased to $4 per book. Most of the advertised secondhand books I bought have been new or barely used.

Anyone looking for books should use a search engine that also calculates the postage to Ireland - example www.bookfinder.com

Follow the link, go to your basket. Above the images of your books is a box for your coupon code (PP5010). The PayPal option is at the very bottom of the page on the right (although it didn't work for me last night, so ended up paying by cc).

Cost me €13 for 3 books, €33 in Eason's for the same and could have got two of the three for €22 in Waterstones (and another random book for free). No wonder bricks and mortar shops are finding it hard to compete.
