Just for the record I do all my repairs with a mig welder:D:D

But my son is looking for fibreglass resin and matting for a final year modelling project in IADT. The amounts he,s using , purchased in the local motor factors, would necessitate me selling my beetles, motorbike, and anything else I own of value to finance it:D:D:D

So if you know any place that can supply bulk amounts of matting and resin i,d appreciate the headsup. thanks

    Hi Kadman,
First pick up your yellow pages and look up boat building or fibreglass manufacturing. Usually boat builders or mould makers will be the right guys to contact. Resion or Polyester is sold by the Kilo. Cloth or matt is sold by the linear yard/meter. You will need hardener which in laymans terms is about 10cc to the kilo. Its possible also to get clear resin or pigment depending on what you need. Please be carefull and be safe as the resin and hardener is a chemical hazard and you should always pay attention to the guidelines.

Theres a company in the Glasnevin Industrial estate, opposite the cemetery that does everything you need, in smallish amounts right up to "sky's the limit" I used to get fibreglass matting from them years ago and always swore by the "woven" mat, as opposed to the "chopped" which was messy. The staff were always most helpful but for the life of me, I cant remember the name. If you check the yellow pages you might come across them, and incidentally, I think the estate is actually called Dublin Industrial estate, but known as Glasnevin, if you get my drift. it's on the left heading towards Finglas, immediatelly before a petrol station.

Used to use these guys in Waterford,

when repairing fiberglass boats over the years.
Don't know if they do mail order though.

The best matting to use is referred to as, "woven roven" It's kind of like a silky cloth but is actually raw fiberglass. The chopped strand mat can be messy if your not used to it.
