Laptop screen problem

    Lads,

Gonna run this past you's before I do anything.

Samsung Q35 laptop - ever since the other day the screen backlight gives out. I turn on the laptop and 99% of the time th backlight is of. I 'Fn & F5' to turn on the backlight but it turns on for about a tenth of a second.

I can 'Fn & F5' but every second time it flashes on for a tenth of a second - the first time I press it it does nothing (as it the first time I press it turns it off).

I've wiped the laptop in case it was a virus and updated the BIOS with no joy.

I'm beginning to think it might be the power supply on the blink. If I plug out the power supply - for the first 10 seconds the screen does the same but then goes to normal where I can use it as normal.

Before I waste my money buying a new power supply - is there anything else I can try to confirm this or any other suggestions...?

    Thanks in advance.

Its not your power supply it is either your back light or your invetor one or the other you cant tell wich one it is on less you test them.

    Hope this help's.

^ He's right - most likely the inverter if its a model with multiple flourescent tubes for backlighting. It can't keep the tubes stable after trying to kick-start them, thus the flash every time you try to turn them back on.

Is that Q35 still under warranty?

No its about 3 years old now but such a work horse for me.

One thing I've noticed is once I start it in battery mode I cannot turn the backlight up to maximum brightness.

Would this still be related to the inverter..?
