Fixing gap in front teeth with bonding?

Hey all, here is a picture of my teeth currently:

    2v1uu78.jpg

Gap size is about 1.5 MM ... closer to 1 MM

Im now 25 and really need to get this fixed as its really hard to smile with confidence with teeth that have a gap in them.

There is a chip on my top left front middle tooth, and the 2nd tooth behind that is chipped on the bottom a bit. Im hoping to have that fixed, along with the gap being closed both by dental cosmetic bonding. I figure by fixing the 2 chips and the gap I will definitely be happy with my smile! I have even tried chewing gum and putting it in the gap sort of and it makes me smile with more confidence haha, corny but true!

I was hoping if anyone could give any advice and also if anyone would be able to create a photoshop creation of what it would look like being fixed?

    Thanks in advance!

I would recommend getting a wax up done first as the teeth may appear very short and fat.
There are some dentists that can probably show you what it will look like with photoshop or similiar I'm sure

looks to me like the front four teeth would need treatment to achieve a balanced result. Just closing the gap in the middle would defo lead to bugs bunny width centrals. I would say bonding or veneers. However the left central and lateral show signs of wear so there may be bite issues to consider also (prob a lateral excursion) maybe some augmentation of the back of the canine on the left. The other option is braces to close the gap and align the teeth, dont discount this one its often best in the long run.

    Thanks for the input!

The left front two are actually chipped, not signs of wear. It was when they came into contact with a piece of metal and chipped. They have been like that for a while now. I had planned on getting those re-touched when the gap was filled. With bonding on the front 4 teeth it should be possible to achieve a balanced look, correct?

I was hoping someone could do a photoshop or recreation of the aftereffects.

    Thanks!

    Agree with others

I think the gap is too large to close fully with just composite bonding/veneers.
The teeth begin to look too square.

I think if you refused orthodontics, then nearly closing the space with be better with composite/veneers.

complete closure without orthodontics would mean 4 veneers at least, and this is destructive and irreversible. This is only possible if your bite is favourable.

There is also the possibility of using a removable appliance (no need to wear train tracks) to tip the two central incisors together and then do 4 veneers. this would be less destructive, but this option is only open if your bite is not deep. You might not even need 4 but maybe 2 on each lateral incisor and a fixed retainer on your centrals.

I think the photos provided by OP are no good for making a diagnosis. They give us an idea but not enough to make a judgement. ( they look distorted to me and the 2 front teeth look very large compared to the laterals. The space looks big but he says it's only 1-1.5mm.

1mm is not a big space and adding .5mm extra width to each tooth will not make the teeth look worse. OP, you should ask your dentist to place some white filling material in the gap( takes about 1 minute) and see what it looks like for yourself. Experiment with closing the space completely or partially as Vishal suggests. The material can simply be put there (not bonded) similar to your chewing gum trick.

If you like the look he can then do it for real and fix the chips at the same time. inexpensive and reversible if you change your mind later.

hey guys just wanted to say thanks for all of your inputs and help!

I went to an orthodontist and discussed my options. I was interested in the invisalign option, however, there are many issues with invisalign I didnt want to deal with.

I was able to acquire photoshop and did my own mock up with dental bonding to the front 4 top teeth:

    newteethedit.jpg

I was thinking at first the front two teeth are too large, but the more I look at it the more I think it will be fine, just a shock at first. This solution will be much less expensive, time consuming, and less of a hassle than invisalign. Also invisalign has some other issues.

Was hoping for some opinions, please keep in mind I dont plan to smile with my teeth sticking out like that in the picture :D

They look fine and you are a dab hand with the Photoshop. I dont think that any dentist on this site could tell you what to do one way or the other without examining you, there are just too many things to consider and a phots will not give enpugh info.

If you dont want braces and are very keen to have the gaps closed then crowns or veneers are the only option but no-one can say if you are suitabkle for this by a photo. Find a dentist you can trust or is recommended by a friend, preferably in the Republic and take it from there. the cost wont be that much cheaper if you have 4 veneers or crowns

I don't agree fully. Diastema closure with composite can be very successful in these cases. I suppose that is a type of veneering. No preparation of the tooth is necessary in many cases.

    Thanks guys!

I really dont want to go the braces route at my age (25). And also veneers/crowns are way too expensive as well. I am not trying to take the quick/cheap route out, but also am at the same time if its possible to do so without any risk/etc. I set up an appointment with a cosmetic dentist near my on the 20th and I printed out the edited pictures I created to bring with to the appointment. I really would like the composite bonding, however, im very afraid of chipping/breaking since it will be my front 4 teeth bonded.

I understand you that you don't want to go braces. Yes, it's quite expensive and will take years to fix your gap, and maybe, you find it a little ugly. But there are some alternatives out there like, your gap 1.5mm. There were teeth gap bands that really works like the bands from orthofill.com and it's safe to use. More links here. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120121225321AAyDMPD

    What, DIY Ortho??!!
Safe, yes it's probably safe in the same way that a DIY haircut is safe, you won't die from it but it'll look terrible in the end....
