According to ticketmaster.ie more tickets may go on sale closer to the date. Anyone know if this is true or just something put on the website for every gig listed but only applies to a few?

It is exactly as it said. Sometimes tickets do go back on sale again, it's random and the lucky ones get it. Obviously the bigger the gig the more chance this has of happening.
