Mazda rx8 engine problems

    Just wondering if anyone has any problems with 04 rx8,
    Car running rough, but not bad, left into dealer and they tell me compression is low and that new engine required cost 4.5k and 1500 to fit.
    is this a common problem or just unlucky???
