Car insurance after accident

I have my prov licence for nearly 2 years now, I had an accident last year with my car (I didnt claim) and now my insurance is running out soon, I would preferably like to stay with the same insurer but my insurance will be going up from €1300 to €1950 (third party only per year)..... I didnt think that the accident was so serious for my premium to go so high for the renewal.

I basically just need advice, whether it would make a difference if I stay with the same insurer or try somewhere else?

I would appreciate some advice on this matter.

I am currently insured with insure.ie.

    Cheers

insurance is going up across the board .... but I would advise that you get a number of quotes from other insurers - before you renew.

I'm 30 (will be 31 soon) and my insurance is €500 with 5yrs no claims bonus....on a 1.8L fiesta Van

If you didn't claim for the accident then why is your premium being raised so high? Did you inform the insurance company anyway? The floods and bad weather of late last year have pushed up premiums but noto that extent - I work in insurance BTW.

I didnt claim, but I collided with a bus (aircoach) and they claimed on my insurance, for the panel that was broken on the side of the bus.

I think that could be the cause of paying extra maybe... I am not so sure.

the fact that they claimed off your insurance means your insurance will jump up anyway ..... combined with the fact that insurance is going up regardless of no claims or not.

when you said you didnt claim - you made us think that the crash was paid for without going through insurance company....you now have zero no claims bonus and 2yrs provisional - with history of a crash - which will have to be reported when looking for insurance quotes, its more than likely the quote you got is the cheapest you will find.

for future reference - if you crash and the other person goes through the insurance ....its your insurance he/she is going through ...so it affects your policy and as you have just found out...you get bent over and told to take it deep !

EDIT: Can I ask .... what didn't you claim for ? (if its the damage to your car then you made a silly mistake - insurance is there for a reason, so that everyone is compensated in the event of an accident)

    Yeah it looks that way!

Thanks a lot for your help, I think I will start being a bit more eco friendly and walk where I need to be... hehe

EDIT: I didnt claim for my car, that I wrote off, even though the damage wasnt that bad but it would have probably cost to fix the same as the value of the car (fiat punto)

If you had TPO then you wouldn't have been able to claim for anything anyway, seeing as you mention the new quote being TPO I'd presume you did?

You'll need to find out the settlement value of the claim to be able to get quotes off others, your current one will have to give you this.

[QUOTEI think that could be the cause of paying extra maybe... I am not so sure.[/QUOTE]

Well I am sure that's whats caused the premium to sky rocket

If prior to the collision you had completed 1 year with the policy claim free then its likely you lost your NCB with the collision - that would be 30% discount no longer applied.

Shop around as you have been advised earlier but really focus on getting your full licence now too.

Hi, I had 2 accidents 2 years ago, and had to 2 heavy claims on both. I haven't been insured since. Now I'm looking for insurance. I'm really just looking for some advice on what to do. It seems like no one wants the insure me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try some brokers would be your best bet; they should be able to find you a quote from somewhere (it mightnt be one that you like, but youre not in a great position to be picky unfortunately). Ring as many companies and brokers as you can find; you might find one who can do something for you.

Also do as much as you can to give yourself an advantage. Find the safest most boring small engined car you can find, and insure it third party only (make sure that its cheap enough that you can afford to walk away from it). This should enable you to find the cheapest quote. Spend a couple of years keeping your nose clean and building up a no claims bonus and in time it will improve.

If you really cannot find anyone to offer you a quote then you need to contact (I think) the Financial Services Ombudsman, and they will get you a quote from someone. Legally you have to be quoted for insurance from someone (as its a legal requirement of driving in Ireland), so if you have been refused by three companies then the ombudsman will get you a quote (I think from the first company that you contacted).

I dont think too many insurers offer protected NCB to a learner.
