Do you need a wireless N router in order to achieve the speeds they're advertising? If so, is this any good? http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3162

    generally

    b: 11mb
    g: 54 mb
    n: 100+ mb

    your connection will run at the speed of the slower of either endpoint (eg: b --> n = 11mb, b --> g = 11mb , g -->n = 54mb , n ---> n = 100+)

Is it true that if you have one device that connects at a lower speed then the entire network runs at the lower speed?

i.e. Wireless N router + 2 laptops 1 is N and the other is G and both are connected, both will only run at 54mb max?

Yes, unless you have an access point with 2 radios (one n and one g)

Cool, just under €15 delivered. Hopefully will be better than the heap of muck that is my Netgear PCI Card.

    Thanks.

Some more expensive routers can service G devices at G speeds and N devices at N speeds at the same time. Otherwise, if a G device is being used, then for that time all your devices are limited to the lowest common speed i.e. G. God help you if it's B!

My modem/router is dual band (2.4 and 5GHz) but unfortunately not simultaneous, so if I want my phone, printer etc to use it I have to leave it on 2.4. If I only had N devices I could use the less-used 5 band and get less interference.

This would be a dual one:

    A bit more than £20 :)

Does anyone know if this would work with a netgear eva 2000 media player?

Netgear have their own dongle, but its a bit pricey.

    Thanks.

Yes, yea will need a N router to get the advertised speeds.

No idea how good that router is but note if you are on ADSL and currently use a modem/router in one jobie and want to keep to a one unit solution that box isn't for you as it doesn't have modem built in

If someone does buy this, can they please report back what chipset it uses, Ralink or Realtek.

My router and 2 adapters just got delivered today. Incredibly fast. If I have time tonight I'll setup and report back with the chipset and how it performs.

Just checking the supplied cd and the drivers appear to be Ralink.
