Problem with My Book World media server + UPC Cisco router on PS3

My PS3 wont detect the Twonky Media Server that is on the My Book World NAS drive when in wireless mode, but picks it up fine when connected by cable to the UPC router.
Has anyone got media server working on this particular setup?
    - PS3 (wireless) + My Book World II + UPC Cisco EPC2425

Whats strange is that the PS3 can go to the media server's IP address through the web browser and can stream media that way. But the interface is not as slick as when the media server is detected on the XMB.

    UPnP is enabled on router.
    PS3 NAT type is 2.
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 for everything - router, media server, and PS3.
Any other settings I should check?

Have you tried disabling the firewall on the Cisco modem ? (it's switched ON by default)Might be blocking the media server connection.

    Router firewall is off.
I've tried forwarding port 9000 (what Twonky server uses) to the PS3 address but no difference.
No encryption used on the wireless network.
Wireless signal is 100% (PS3 is right beside router for the tests).
Same thing happens for a second PS3 in the house.

Might try using a different wireless router. Will disable the wireless on the Cisco box and connect a Netgear wireless router to it, and see how that goes.

Go with the Netgear and keep me posted , just out of interest .

Yep, PS3 picks up the Twonky Media Server fine through the Netgear router.
Ran a cable from one of the ethernet ports of the UPC router to the WAN port of the Netgear router. Connected the My Book World NAS drive to the Netgear also. Then configured the PS3 to join the Netgear wifi network, and media server appeared on the PS3.

Internet access comes through fine still from the Cisco router. Not sure if the extra link in the chain (UPC modem/router -> Netgear router -> PS3) will have an impact on speed or lag, but initial tests seem ok.

Would still be interested in knowing what the craic with the UPC Cisco router is, and getting a NAS media server to work on PS3 over wireless.

If the My Book World can be used as a Hard Drive, try downloading PS3 Media Server, plug the hard drive into your computer, start up the media server and you should be able to play anything on your computer or hard drive.

I've heard good things about PS3 Media Server. Must check it out.
Although for the time being I wanted to get a media server working with the PS3 that didn't require my PC to be turned on. The Western Digital MyBook was perfect for this - basic media server built in, 1TB of space, and fairly cheap (€83 for B-grade stock from www.dabs.ie).

PS3 Media Server would be handy for transcoding those pesky MVK files on the fly, mind. But that's another day's work :)

It's the way forward, handiest thing I've found by far. Don't even have to transfer videos onto another hard drive. Give it a shot and you might never look back!
