Dash Language on a 06 MK6 Passat question

Hey all I bought a MK6 Passat a couple of months ago. Everythings been perfect with it since I've put up a few thousand kms. The guy I bought it off gave me a full service history all with a main dealer and said it had just had the MAF sensor replaced as it was going into limp mode. Before I bought it I got a VAG-Comm lead and software and ran the diagnostics everything was fine just the MAF fault so I went ahead and bought it. Now to my question the dash language was set to German meaning that the dash messages where in German I never thought anything of it at the time this being my first VW. The VAG-Comm software allowed me to set it to English and this got me thinking why would an Irish car be set to German in the first place? Is this something they set in the factory and should of been reset by the garage prior to sale? I'm thinking there maybe more to it or am just reading too much into it?

Can anyone tell me if the dash language on their MK6 Passat is in English or German?

The only thing that ive seen sometimes shown in german on older Audis was the brake system warning which used to say bremsleuchte or something like that. The book even said it would do that. There is no reason why your passat should be showing german at all. Maybe someone got carried away with a vagcom before you got it.

So far it's just the 'Press Clutch' message if you try start without doing so there was another message in German but I haven't seen it since I changed to English so I don't know what it was. But it was what got me thinking why the feck is it in German!

i do a lot of work on VW's from the dealers....they all start off showing in German,as it's the base factory language. If i get a car in for phone/sensors etc, that hasn't been PDI'd,the display language is english...I suspect that your ECU was flashed at the last service, and then simply not set to English afterwards...

Thanks pounder770 that would explain it. The service history lists a main dealer so it must of been done on one of its visits. I knew it was odd seeing as how not understanding the 'Press Clutch' warning would prevent you from starting the car if you where unfamiliar with it.
