Some time ago I added to my friends list on Facebook a guy I used to be in the same class in highschool. We never were friends, we just knew each other, exchanged few words - that's about it.

Not long after I added him on FB from time to time he started to post something like 'See you in another life' or 'I'm cancelling my account' 'Goodbye forever' etc. However few minutes or hours later I could see him posting again.

To be completely honest with you after I saw what was going on it started to annoy me and I stopped paying any attention to those messages whatsoever. However now I'm starting to think that he might have some personal(?) or psychological problem. I know for the fact that not so long ago(maybe a year or so) his mother died. I don't know about his father although I know he was raised only by her. He was never really outgoing - quite the opposite and as much as we, girls, were mostly nice to him or at least polite, guys gave him hard time. He also seems to be very sensitive and I don't think he is seeing anyone(or ever did).

I can't help him personally as I live abroad but do you think that suggesting counseling to him might be inappropriate? As I mentioned before we are just colleagues and I don't know much about his situation. But those messages are quite disturbing and I would feel awful if something happened to him and I didn't tried to help even in some limited way.

yes, i would give him a friendly formal message including some informations of some counselling hotline or counselling service that he can access to, or even the link of this PI board.

but be careful not to be too bothered by him and don't be too helpful that he may be dependent on you or misundertand your intention as an interest in him.
