At the moment my mum wants to get a newer car...

She has a car that would work for the scrapage scheme.

My aunt as a 07 yaris and she want to sell up,so now my mum was thinking of taking the 06 yaris off my aunt.

I was wondering is it possible for my mum to say buy a new yaris using the scrapage system and then give that to my aunt while my aunt give my mum the yaris and the difference in money.

    So its like this
My mum buys a new yaris using scrapage scheme.
    Gives it to my aunt
Aunt gives her car to my mum with money as well..

There is no problem in doing that. The only thing is when your mum buys the new car she will have to register it in her name, then transfer ownership to your aunt thus meaning that your aunt is the second owner of the car on the log book which may devalue the car if she decides to resell in the future.

The other option is that your mum transfer ownership of her car to your aunt and then your aunt can buy the new car herself using your mums car (now with her as registered owner) as scrappage.

    Hope thats not too confusing

    Yes.

You mom needs to trade her old car for the Yaris under the scrappage scheme (assuming it qualifies). The new Yaris will be registered in your moms name. Once the new Vehicle Registration Cert arrives with her name on it she can then transfer ownership over to your Aunt by both of them filling in the transfer of ownership section and sending it off to the DOE in Shannon. They both do the same with the 07 Yaris.

I think thats wrong.. You have to be owner of the car for a certain period to qualify... but I stand corrected if im wrong..

The car to be scrapped has had to be owned by the buyer for at least 18 months if they want to avail of the scrappage scheme. :)

And needs to have been insured for the past 12months.
It must also have a valid nct, or have recently been tested and failed.

at least he admits it, loads of folk post non truths and what not in here when they quite obviously are students of the top gear and honest john schools of motoring, not knowing a spark plug from a spanner.

So there is no way for my mum to buy the car,but not put her name on the ownership. And then sell it to my aunt

If your mum has owned her car for more than 18 months, I cant see a problem. She will have to buy the car for your aunt and then change over the ownership., nobody will know the diffrence.

true, your mum will have to put the new car in her own name initially, then transfer it.

    Yea the car will qualify.

At the moment it says you can get a yaris for 11,950 using the scrappage scheme. When you trade in a car is that the max they will go down by,or do ye think it could be bargain down to say 11,500.

Secondly do you think my family would save more if my aunt just went into the dealer with cash(no car) and tried to bargain with them.
She then sells her old car to my mum
my mum then sells her car, with a estimated value of around 500-600

If your stopped for a search and customs see the money you may be asked some questions. Best off with a draft for most of the cost. It's refundable if you don't buy and more secure
