I did geomatics for a couple of years in Bolton Street.
It's a well run course with good lecturers plus the class is small with around 40 places. The course has a lot to do with maths as well as surveying and computers. The ratio in my first year was about 30 fellas to 6 women if that answers your question.

what type of maths is involved? is it using large formulas or more simple math?

is it easy to find employment with this degree?

There are many different types of maths involved in the course.
A lot of it involves geometry based maths (ie. trigonometry, transformations etc..) however there are other forms of it in the course like matrices and differential calculus as well as the formula (which can be rather large) needed to complete surveying assignments depending on what it is you want to find out about a particular area of land.
As well as the maths there were other other modules to do with land law, the environment and AutoCad.
As regards finding work, there is a work experience semester in third year.
A lot of the work is very much to do with companies looking to extract minerals from the ground and having maps made to get to it using ground scanning techniques.
Aerial mapping is also an area that uses people of this profession.
To be honest, i don't know what the whole employment thing is like when it comes to this degree as i left it and went into another course.
