I've just received a new contract from my employers, they have said that they want a Garda check done on me (not just me, everyone)
I've no bother at all with doing this but they said we have to pay for it ourselves.

It's only something small like 6.50 but it's the principal, if they want it doing, shouldn't they have to pay??

That does sound weird. Would you mind telling us what company, if this is ok with you and forum mods? A small sum like that should be part and parcel of the hiring cost for the company.

Rather not if thats ok, but i've been emplyed by them for 2.5years now without a problem.

I've nothing at all to hide from a check, just the principal of the payment

After working for the company for 2 and a half years you should be on a permanent contract.

Have a read of that and see what your responsibilities are.

If you paying for security clearence is not mentioned then you do not have to pay.

Tell your boss that you have no problem with Garda clearence but as YOU do not need it you feel you should not have to pay for it.

If your boss takes ANY action against you you have a case against him/her for discrimination or bullying or unfair dismissal or constructive dismissal or many many other ways to ensure your boss follows the rules of your contract.

Another tip. Keep a record of everything that happens to you in the job from now on.
You may find this invaluable in the future

    good luck
