Getting aluminium sheet cut to size

I am working on a little project and need to get some small (around 5cm x 5cm) aluminium plates made up. Some of the plates would also need holes cut in them. The edges have to be smooth, so I guess laser cutting would be the best option.

Has anyone ever had anything like this done or know what it would cost?

    Thanks,
    Alex

Where are you located ? -- I know a place in Tralee that could do that for you.
Costs !! I wouldn't have a clue but I know that they would be able.

Aluminium metal is the most abundant in the earth's crust. It is the most commonly used metal in our daily lives. One of the advantages of aluminum is that it is 100 percent recyclable and so can be melted down and reused to make more products. Aluminum has replaced steel as the armor of choice for modern warships.

Give these guy's a call they may be able to help, http://www.owenlennonsigns.com/services/

Or you could always use a jig-saw with a fine tooth blade and sandpaper it's not to hard to get a good finish on aluminium.

Try any metal fabricators. They'll have a guillotine which will chop up aluminium no sweat and produce a pretty smooth edge (although you can work it further if it's really polished you want). They would be able to stack a number of the plates and drill a hole then ream it to produce a smooth hole surface. Most would have some aluminium knocking around to save you buying a sheet.

Could you pm the name of this place ( I am in Tralee) and need a complicated piece of aluminium cut. I know it is 5 years since you posted this - I am a slow reader:D
