    Hey there everyone,

    Back in January I started running with the aim of doing a 10k race this summer but I got up to a standard that I was happy with and then I decided I would push myself a little harder and I ran ten miles last week in a time of 1 hour and 25 minutes.

    I have been running short distances for about the last four years only about 2 or 3 miles maybe twice a week nothing too stressful but I decided I would push myself out and I got the above time for the 10 miles.

    I'm just curious what do you think would be a decent time for ten miles I'm 21 by the way 5'8 and about 170lbs.

    Also can anyone recommend a decent pair of runners?

    Times are all relative, so any feedback on how long it takes you to run 10 miles would be pretty meaningless. But well done on the achievement though. That's great progress. If you look at McMillan, it'll give you suggestions of equivalent times for different distances, assuming that you do proper training for each distance, which is about as useful feedback as you are likely to get.

    Have you considered training for a half marathon?

    Yeah when I hit the ten mile mark the thought occured to me. So I'm gonna stick with it and see if I can do it. My thinking on the training for a half marathon would be to get up to running 15 miles comfortably so even if I have an off day on the day of the event I should still be able to do it handy enough. Maybe I'm wrong with that thinking but I reckon it's a good idea. Cheers for the link.

    What you should really do is find a solid 1/2 marathon training program, and follow it. It'll help you to train more intelligently, help you to avoid injury and get you to your half marathon feeling rested and ready. Try http://www.halhigdon.com

    As for shoes. A good idea is to go into a good running shop. In Dublin you could check out - runways in Parnell st or amphibian king in Bray - where you'll get advice on the type of shoe to suit you.
