    Hey everyone!

I want to invite you all to Model United Nations(MUN) competitions and training as organized by the International Relations Society.

    What is MUN?

MUN is a competition where you take a position of a country assigned to you in one of the committees of the United Nations discussing a particular topic. To put it out of the abstract, an example would be you representing USA on the Security Council talking about International Terrorism and pushing for the UN to bring about a resolution that will effectively tackle terrorism while other countries might try to help or damage you, based on their own set of beliefs.

    Is it just simple debating?

No, not at all. MUN competition is quite different than a normal debating competition. Instead of having to debate something in the abstract you are given a pretty much more concrete topic and a role to play based on your country. There is much more of an interaction with other countries when the debate is moving back and forth between the delegates or even there is room for informal debate when you move around freely and simply talk to your fellow delegate.

Is this the right kind of thing for you?

I would urge everyone to try out this exciting competition. Whether you like to bash western imperialism or urge new economic approaches to the world economy or simply want to have fun pretending you believe in something that you're completely opposed to, you will soon like MUN.

Ok then, what do I do to join?

Simply come to our MUN training that starts again this Wednesday at six o'clock in West Wing 9. There we will practice MUN every week so that we can send the best possible delegations to international competitions in Hague, Oxford, London, New York or maybe even Taiwan! We've just returned from a weekend in London and the weekend was great fun, having spent in in the King's College and Canada House!

Hope to see you all there!

    Mario
