    The task:
Inflate tyres for my vans to about 50-60 lbs / 4 bar

Used to have a cheapo Lidl footpump yonks ago which was fine for car tyres, but the combined pressure of 100 kg at the lever and 4 bar at the business end literally made it split at the seams.
Bought one of those battery pack/tyre inflator combos ...what a useless piece of kit that is. Produces copious amounts of irritating noise, but no pressure.

Any sources for a heavy duty footpump that doesn't break the bank?

Would you not be better buying a small compressor?

Do you mean those 12V cigarette lighter thingies? They are useless and don't reach the required pressure.

A proper compressor is too expensive for just pumping up the odd tyre

I'm a bit surprised at that. Have you tried jacking the wheel before inflating?

years ago the guys delivering guinness used to use an adapted fitting to fit the beer keg gas to inflate lorry tyres

This is the kind of thing I'm looking for ...a heavy-doody pump. (needn't be green :D)
    werkzeug_koemag_2.jpg

sadly the one in the pic costs 50 euro plus 35 freight ...that's a bit dear, especially the freight
