I just got my car back from garage where they were working on the exhaust. Since I got it back the door light has been flicking on & off when I am driving & all doors are shut...

Does anyone know if this is something simple as I can't understand how this light can be flicking on & off if they were working on the exhaust...

Did you check there's nothing obstructing the boot, it's likely it's not closed properly or somthing is jammed in it.

Yeah I checked that.. the boot is actually empty at the minute and I checked that it is closing properly..

Is the door open symbol lit on the dashboard? If not it could be the switch for the light is half way set between on and the door open light. If it is on the dash I would go around each door and check that the door light indicators are all clear of obstruction.

I had the same problem on my (Mk2) Golf. I took out all of the little switches one by one, cleaned them and gave a blast of WD40. No issues with it since

Yes the door open symbol is lit on the dash.. I will have a look for any obstruction on the indicators but not sure what I am looking for..

I'd bet on an issue the same as mine so. Just check all of the little buttons inside each door

All the microswitches that control those lights are prone to sticking for no apparent reason.

If its the boot then there could be a leak that has spilt water directly on to the microswitch in the latch itself.

However, on my mark 4 golf I the passenger door has a sticky microswitch and its just dirt Id say.

If its the boot that is causing the problem then it should be an easy fix.

I think this was the problem.. dried off the latch and took it for a spin for 5/6 miles and no light came on in the dash.. hopefully that is the end of it.

    thanks

Problem now may be that if it leaks again of maybe just down the line the light will never come on and you will lose your light in the boot as well as the electric motor that is used to open the lock when you press the button at the back.

It happened to me when it leaked a second time. The microswitch got well fecked then.

had the same prob with a mk4 golf..
    The switch kept sticking.
Even after being wd40'd, it would stick again a few weeks later.. Got fed up and ended up cutting the wire.

Nothing worse than that little red light flashing on and off randomly on a long journey at night
