    Hi all,

My father had a beige 1977 Renault 6 up to about 1993, reg. 549 OZA. It's still showing 'level 1' or sommat on Motorcheck.ie ... does this mean it hasn't been scrapped, and may in fact still be out there somewhere? It's a long shot, but if anyone's seen it, I'd really like to know.

    Cheers,

    Tony.

If it comes up on any of those sites, it means it hasn't been scrapped before 1993. Could have been scrapped afterwards though. You could pay the €20 odd or whatever it is too see if it's still around or not.

If it was scrapped in 1993 or after it will still show, even if its been scrapped,as records went computerised at the end of 1992 im told.

Sligo, about 3 years ago, I don't know if its still on. but the show was held on a Saturday at a working museum - folk park, was always on the Saturday before the Sunday Volkswagen/Classic show in Mungret in Limerick... and yes after telling the wife we'd go to Sligo for the w/end, we were back on the road at 9am on the Sunday, hitting for Galway to collect the Merc to head for Limerick:D, well what else was there to do in Sligo when its raining???

    Super little car,

I took one in as a trade-in against a MGB GT in 1981.

now that i see that pic I realise my dad had one too. We went to see the pope in limerick in 79 and on the way back the accelerator cable snaped and The ol man had to drive home with a string coming through the dash.....

That's Riverstown show that you're on about, still takes place on a Saturday every year.

Mywheels charge 7 quid for their check now, this will tell you when it was last taxed. TBH, the chances of it still being in a roadworthy or restorable condition are tiny. It might be sitting rotten in a barn somewhere though.

If it is scrapped it probably won't be officially recorded as such - unless it fell victim to the 1995-1997 scrappage scheme.

If you know a Garda or an employee in your local motor tax office they could (but shouldn't) tell you the current/last owner

Unless this has changed recently, but the motor tax office should be able to tell you the name of the last registered owner of the car, Applications have to be made in writing stating the reason you want to know these details, and there was a fee of about €12, might be worth a phone call to your local tax office to see if this is still the case.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks a lot for the replies. I guess I got my hopes up a bit ( father is ill, suddenly things like the cars of yore take on a new importance )

I might just go for the report on it ... it's very unlikely by the sound of the replies, but it could be blocking a ditch somewhere ( which means I might rescue the only part of a six that wouldn't dissolve in the rain ... aluminium Renault badge lmao! )

Thanks a lot for the info. everyone.

    Regards,

    Tony.

    Well well ...

Went on mywheels.ie as suggested and the car is showing as not scrapped, or written off. Tax due date June 2003, which is about when it left home. I take it the chances of it being out there are still slim, as a hole could've been dug and the car squished with a grab unofficially.

Since my last post my dear father passed away. If this car is out there I'd love to find it. There are some pretty astute spotters on here and it's a long, long shot ... but if anyone does spy 549 OZA, beige Renualt 6 anywhere, please let me know.

    Thanks a lot,

    Tony.

    An even longer shot ...

and probably so much so ye'll all laugh but there was a Vauxhall Viva HB too (not showing up on anything) - white, 1970 - 976 VZU ...
