The semi finals were on today in Maynooth with UCC comfortably defeating IT Athlone 1-15 to 0-07, while DCU had 5 points to spare over NUIM. The final is set for tomorrow at 3pm in Leixlip.

Neutrality aside for a moment, c'mon the Dubs!!

    Come on DCU!
It's on TG4 tomorrow at 2.15 which is a great boost.
Paddy Andrews, Bryan Sheridan and company are in flying form so I'd say DCU are favourites.
    Has anyone seen UCC play?

Just checked the odds on Paddy Power - Correct about DCU being favourites, surprised at the odds as UCC have turned in some pretty strong performances on the way to the final and have a strong enough looking team

    DCU 2/7
    Draw 15/2
    UCC 3/1

    Sweet that it's on TG4
    Up UCC

Seen the two games today. UCC aren't that bad, don't think DCU will have it all their own way against them. DCU had a much tougher game today, I wonder if they'll be fully recovered from that tomorrow...

Juat seen above post, UCC defo worth a punt @ 3/1

Lets not forget DCU dispatched CIT though... on the back of that performance I'd favour them (I may be a little bit biased here).

Reckon from reports from players off NUI Maynoth side that they reckon UCC will win

Come on UCC. Won the Fitzgibbon last year. Would be great to add a Sigerson victory this year

If anyone who was going to the game be interested in submitting a report of the game for the blog The Student Observer, submissions would be very welcome. If anyone is interested please email at studentobserverireland@gmail.com

I don't mean this to be spam or pimping my blog. The sites just been set up and we are trying to generate interest among universities and colleges. Other material is also welcome.

DCU will win this one. UCC beat us in this competition this year and i think that semi final they had is the worst possible thing for them. DCU just have too much.

Final score DCU 1-11 UCC 0-10, DCU deserving winners, UCC had no answer to Sheridan who had a great game

To be honest- this competition is becoming a bit of a farce.
There badly needs to be an age limit brought in- its ridiculous seeing the difference in ages and physical development between the 2 teams today.

UCC were a team of students more or less, DCU were a team of fully grown men

Have a look around any campus in Ireland and you'll see plenty of fully grown men who are students so I can't see how you have a point.

In this day and age there are students of all ages in colleges, I don't see why we should have to be ageist.

Theres a limit on the freshers and I have just seen on a thread over on Hogan Stand that there is an age limit supposedly coming in.
So it seems that this issue has been noted before

Well the best player on the field today was a 21 year old from Meath, class act!!

Well done to DCU and Brian Sheridan!!

Excellent player and dont get me wrong- congrats to DCU.
I just think this competition needs change- Hogan Cup schools competition has age limit, dont see why sigerson shouldnt

I think an age limit should be imposed, however I also think that if someone is over-age but doing their first under-grad degree then I think they should be allowed play.

For example, say the limit was 27, and someone like Sheridan or Shine were 28 but in their first under-grad degrees, they should be allowed to play.

The limit on Freshers is a good thing. Imagine if there wasn't a limit and Paul Flynn was allowed to play for the DCU Freshers??

Some game from Brian Sheridan, hope to see him play like that in the green & gold this summer.

DCU simply put a ton of effort into Sigerson preperation. I've probably a unique insight as I had an inside view of the setup in both colleges.

DCU pump a lot of money and attract really high calibre players as a direct result. This is a way they hope to entice students to the college. They are bigger as they are simply training to a professional level. Lads will get generous scholarships, help with their studies and are very well looked after. The Real Madrid of Sigerson football.

In terms of age limits-its worth pointing out that freshers aren't allowed play, and this rules out Michael Murphy who is the current young player of the year. Probably one of the top forwards around in Ireland at the moment. Seanie Johnston was also missing due to injury.

UCC obviously take it seriously themselves, and have Billy Morgan coaching them. If you are a UCC student you go there for academic reasons first of all, and you won't get much in terms of preferential treatment due to your involvement-you are expected to put the work in at college and train in the evening.

There already are some limits in play. For example you can't play while at the same level of education, as in once the first Level 8 (undergrad degree) is done you can't play for a different institution while a Level 8 student. Likewise once the first Level 9 (Masters) is done you need special dispensation to do so again and likewise with Level 10 (PhD). Obviously some schools will look to get around these rules but at least it's tighter now than at the start of the decade where there was way more of this messing going on.

I see where your coming from but I really dont think it will make a lot of difference... The calibre of players DCU have at their disposal means you could take the older players out of the team and they still would be as strong!! For example 2 of the players they brought on. R.Cullivan(Cavan) and D.Shine(Roscommon) are both only around 21 and have considerable intercounty experience along with S.O'Rourke(Meath) who was injured I think?
