Saddle, cutout or not?

Probably a futile question, as everyone's undercarriage is different.

CRC sent me a saddle I ordered (Selle Italia SLR), but sent the cut-out version instead of the non cut-out that I ordered. I've never tried either before, so taking a total punt on the saddle anyway, but had read reviews where people found the edges of the cutouts uncomfortable.

Current crap saddle has no cutouts and generally has never caused numbness unless I sit in one position for a very long time.

So, do I send it back or see it as a sign from above that I'm meant to ride a cut-out?

True, and having chislers does interfere with cycling time.

However the whole floppy and flaccid furore was based on dodgy research.

So cut-outs don't make any difference there. Besides, I don't think Viagra is on the UCI's banned list.

As far as I know pros don't use cutout saddles.

In my own experience, cutout saddles are very useful up to a point, but when very low I still get some discomfort despite the cutout.

Therefore, I believe that once you get past a certain point of pelvic rotation the problem either goes away or requires a different design.

The worst numbness I ever got was touring (upright position, long days in the saddle). I will never forget the terror (I was 21 at the time).

That seals it for me so :pac:

Oh and yes, numb tackle is terrifying the first time.

I don't see how having the cut out will be detrimental so I'd just keep it, particularly if it was more expensive than the one you ordered.

Billy Connolly has a piece about the effect of badly adjusted saddles.

I've a Selle Italia SLR with cutout and have no problems with the 'edges', might possibly be a problem on heavily padded saddles, but have to say I dont even notice it has a cutout, its just a fantastic comfy saddle despite looking like an arse hatchet !
