    Hi,

In order to try and settle a bet, I am looking to try and find out when the Outside Temperature Sensor was first introduced in cars and by whom. I have tried searching Google etc. but it's a hard search to try and formulate.

    Anyone have any idea?

    Cheers

    Ken

No idea - a few quick google queries brought back this article http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z7223/Mercedes-Benz-560-SL.aspx, which suggests the Mercedes Benz W126 (S class) had one, launched 1979! But I don't know for sure and the text of the article is unclear about if this was there at launch or added later.
Utilizing an interior temperature sensor to effectively climatize the cabin area, a fully automatic climate control system was installed. Mounted close to the sunroof, the sensor could detect when the roof was ajar by the cool windchills and call upon the system to adjust heat flow accordingly. Placed below the speedometer, an exterior temperature sensor would display the exterior temperature and was set in the main instrument console.
