    Hey all ,

quick question , was driving to work this morning on the M1 soutbound , there was a garda car on top of one of the bridges with handheld gun , do they clock you for speeding? or do they have to come after you ? i heard about those gatso vans but it was just a lone garda and the guard had the gun on top on the car ..what u reckon just checking speed or do they issue fines ? just question .. thanks

Some guns have cameras & connect to printers and can operate like the gatso vans. If they were on top of the bridge its likely they were operating as such.

i'm all for information about speed enforcement equipment and operations being make public, however it is generally kept quiet, and members on this forum keep quiet about the operational limits etc of such equipment, and generally queries about such are locked soon after being posted.

Anyway.. If u keep within the law (ie speed limits) you have nothing to be worried about.
If u disreguard such laws, you have noone to blame but yourself when a letter arrives thru the door with points and a fine

Answering a question about whether or not the Gardaí have to chase you or can they do a print off is hardly a huge secret, the lads over on the motors forum complain enough every week about that tactic:D and NGA thanked a post containing the answer, if he thought the question shouldn't be answered this thread would have been gone hours ago.

what i'm talking about is someone asking about the operational limitations of equipment etc..
    Not necessarly procedure.

A thread was closed recently that asked about the range of the new speed cam vans, thats the type of thing i was referring to.

By "recently" do you mean this year?

Only one I could find was this but it wasn't asking about range.

Anyway, the OP's question has been answered by a serving Garda in good standing on this forum, so we can now close this one off too.
