right took the car to carlow nct this morning she is a 1998 toyota glanza turbo and she failed on exhaust emissions

She passed on low emissions co 0.47% hc 180rpm at 830 rpm
She failed on high idle lambda 1.08 co 0.64% HC 100PPM at 2700 rpm

So looks like failing on high revs the lad at the nct said could be the cat needs replacing
She also failed on rear shocks but thats not a major issue

    Would appreciate any ideas

Got a quote from a place in navan for cat replace including fitting for 280.00 euro , rear shocks are 48.00 each in halfords

Maybe try this site www.torque-irl.com. Might get a decent second
hand cat off a club member. Save you paying out for a brand new one.

You might want to check first that it is the cat converter? My 00 celica failed for emissions last week and i had it in the toyota garage for the day and they couldn't find anything wrong with the cat or the sensors, they replaced my spark plugs and air filter but said that it didn't improve things. So they recommended the additive for my petrol...has anyone has success using that to pass the NCT?

just been told about dipetane its a fuel additive thats guaranteed to help u pass the emissions test as it burns off the excess carbon in the engine its abut 12 euro for a one l bottle has anyone used this before

Does the car have a cat fitted?

Lots of cat replacement pipes fitted to these for more power. Just something for you to check.

what are the limits for the 98 glanza?

Ive used dipthane before, didnt make much difference, it did improve MPG though.

You will probably find that a good service will help alot.

Not being funny but you'd want to consider a different garage to be honest.

My 03 megane failed on emmisions...guy said the exhaust was leaking...i looked under ..there was a pin hole at the very bottom of the rear box due to condensation i'd say.....put some exhaust filler on it ...passed....either modern cars are extremely sensitive or its a scam....:o

yeah car is fitted with a cat , was serviced not too long ago and i changed the oil every 3000 kms car is well looked after , nct report says its the lambda sensor but will try this new fuel additive dipetane and run her for a few weeks on it
Rear shocks are fu==ed cas of the hugh potholes in the road

took the car over to healys exhaust place in naas and they were fantastic the lads there welded up a small hole in the back box and gave me the advice to add in a bottle of dipetane and drive the sh-t out of it before the retest they didnt even charge me for welding the hole , nothing wrong with the cat so will go back there to get the shocks done

Try healys exhaust in naas they are brill and will give u honest advice on what you need or dont need :):):)

Did they re-test the emissions and show you the results? If not I wouldn't be getting to excited they may not of fixed the problem at all...
