Sky HD Northern Ireland Sub

I am with UPC, and I am thinking of subscribing to Sky HD. I am looking at the option of getting Sky HD install in my mother house in Northern Ireland, and bringing the box down into the Republic (have dish), as the Channel
line up seems better (Channel 5 etc, plus you get RTE, TG4 in the North). I have a couple of questions:

    1. Does the Sky HD have to be connected to a landline?
    2. Is the Northern Ireland Channel line up better than the Republic Sky Sub?
    3. Is the Sky HD package cheaper in N.I that in the Republic

Has anyone done this and can advise. Thanks

The phone line isn't needed except for the switch on of the card.

People have done this [including me] but it's a grey area.
Sky forbid it in their terms and conditions yet half the irish or British bars in northern/western Europe are doing it.

You will not be able to order box office and if you have a tech problem at any point you will have to ring the UK number.

Yes with currency differences ,the subs are a lot cheaper in sterling.

With regards to Box Office, can I phone Sky, and give credit card number to order PPV, or they can take it from my bank account?

You'll get RTE and all the BBCs, ITVs, and C5 stations in the guide. It really would be highly sought after. You will lose access to TV3 though (no great loss).

As far as I know the Sky account will have to be linked to a bank account / credit card with a UK address. To be honest, I'd keep things low key if I were you and avoid things like PPV events / Box Office movies.

Now, if only my mother lived up in NI... :)

Gain all bbc channels, utv and itv channels and Ch5 on epg. Get BBC HD and Ch4HD on epg for free. With a €12 HD sub £10stg and £18 variety pack sub, get all non premium HD channels and more.

Loose TV3, 3E and certain programmes on RTE, Including some sports (premiership) Lost,

Avoid phoning sky for PPV events..Looking for trouble.

I appreciate all the advice, I would not be interested in the PPV side of things. I have TV3 through the Aerial and then DTT. I just want a better EPG Channel line up especially for the Sky+.

I am going to get my mother in N.I to order the Sky HD set-up (has the dish already). Will I leave the box connected to the N.I phone line for 24 hours, to receive all the channels, before bringing it down to my house in the South?

Any other points, I need to look at.

Does your dish in the South have two cables coming from the LNB to where yo u want to plug it in? Sky + and Sky + HD require two to record one channel whilst watching another. Not sure what happens if one is disconnected, however.

Yeah, NI sub is handy. Losing TV3 and 3e is a minor sacrifice. Anyway, as you say, TV3 is available terrestrially.

Once you're happy all subscription channels are active, you can disconnect the phoneline and take the box with you.

the hd box requires 2 cables. the epg will not update without 2nd cable since new style epg was put in place..

Can the direct debit be set up using my credit card, and payment being charged.

Or would a southern bank account (Ulster Bank) cause issues for the N.I subscription?
