    Heya,

Just about to order a new stratocaster body unfinished and was wondering would anyone know of anyone who would spray it Vintage white - Yngwie Malmsteen's signature guitar colour? and whats the cost going to look like?

    Thanks,

    Dan.

I am doing one this weekend with a Ibanez Jem body....EVH style.
I am taking it to a mate of mine who fixes damaged cars. Spray gun in hand, Google info and hopefully nice results.

You could do the paint job yourself, with plenty of precautions though.

I'd love to, But I bought fender authorised parts which cost a pretty penny so I don't want to ruin it :) thanks for the suggestion doh, I might head out to car sprayers in the morning and see what they might charge

If it's sanded properly, next is primer, more light sanding, one more primer and sanding. Then about 3-6 coats of paint etc.

If you feck it up, you can always remove the paint with sanding. Although that is a long process.

Although Fender reputedly used car paints to finish their bodies, this has led to the cracking & crazing that we see on vintage guitars. There is a difference between metal paints & wood paints & you should probably talk to one of the paint suppliers such as Vinny Byrne or Morrell's. You have a choice of Cellulose, synthetic, 2-pack etc. Not all may be suitable for wood, I am not an expert. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I paint cars, but I also paint guitars too. Yngwie's colour is similar to Pepper White used on MINIs with a drop or two of yellow added in for good measure.

Is car paint ok or do you need another type??

In your experience does the car paint work? And is it an expensive task to get done?

Sorry for the late reply, was out .... painting a car.

In the few strats I've done, car paint works fine, but it needs a shiate load of lacquer on top of it, and a decent primer under it. I charge - no idea what others charge, between 200-250 depending on the complexity of the job. Remember, I also have to strip the body of electronics, and the neck, and restring/resolder it all when its done and test it again.

I'm doing one of my Ibanezs shortly, might take a few photos along the way. Still haven't picked a colour mind :)

Well its just an unfinished body with no neck, no sanding to be done, no electronics. Just a piece of wood in need of primer paint and coating :)
