    Hi,
    Apologies for my ignorance,
I've been asked a by friend to find out the cost of a brand new, entry spec, 2010 1.6 Petrol Octavia in a Northern Ireland dealership and potential cost to change over?

This person is looking to buy up North after getting very poor trade in value on her 4 year old octavia down here.
I advised her of the potential issues of buying up North but she is still interested to find out the cost of a new one,
    Any help appreciated,
Also, for future reference, can anyone advise a site which would have these prices? (I should know this really already)
    Kippy

Why would they want a 1.6 petrol Octavia, surely 1.6 diesel would be a better choice?

The diesel is in band A for emissions (104 a year tax) so low VRT. I doubt Skoda even offer a 1.6 petrol.

They've probably replaced it with the 1.2 TSI engine.

    At 176 g/km it'd be 600 quid a year to tax.

was about to say the same would be madness to import a petrol car these days with the changes in vrt and tax

It still on the UK price list though, still at 600€ to tax, it'd be madness, the 1.2Tsi with 156€ tax or the 1.4Tsi with 302€ road tax are times a million better buys, but the 1.6Tdi definitely makes the most sense long run

So it would be diesel then the price of the entry level model is £15,280, dont know much about working out cleared prices down here bhut take away cash discount from that to start with i guess. At that price i cant see it working out much cheaper than down here though. OP does your friend want to sell private down here first of all?

What about the trade in then if going north? Seeing as that wouldn't be taken into account for a norther purchase - how does a cash price compare north and south?

She'd have to sell her '06 here herself. She will get a lot less than she sees them advertised for ;)

What Octavia is it (spec / engine)? How much has she been quoted to move up to a '10 1.6d?

I realise that. She may be giving the existing Octavia to her son in the next few months so doesnt necessarily need to sell it.
She was offered 4.5K for her petrol (I think 1.4) octavia.
She wants to know cash value of a brand new one in the North.

That's ridiculous. I can see why she wants to explore other avenues :)

A base 1.6d lists for about £15k in the UK, don't expect it on the road for less than £14k. Then you have to reclaim UK VAT and pay Irish VAT (higher rate than UK) and VRT at 14% of the Irish value (OMSP).

Skoda Ireland do very good cash deals, I doubt if she would have to spend much more over here. Did she get any cash quotes from dealers here?

I dunno Unkel. Base 1.6d OTR from drivethedeal.com for £12380. No need to pay UK VAT, just fill out form VAT4. "Good cash deals" - according to ROR here (who should know better than pretty much else), Skoda margins have dropped and 5% would be a very good cash discount. Hardly earth shattering! Base Irish price with discount of approx €19k may be close enough not to make a trip worthwhile though.
