    Defiance is a good movie

If you like cheesy, campy horror, try Død Snø (2009), Slither (2006), Splinter (2008).

    Within the last 2 years:
    Defiance (2008)
    Eden Lake (2008)

Older than you'd like, but still worth a look:
    Ginger Snaps (2001)
    Taxidermia (2006)
    The Descent (2006)
    Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
    The Devil's Backbone (2001)
    3 Extremes (series of 3 films) (2005)
    Inside (2007)
    [REC.] (2007)

Any other ideas?good supernatural horrors, world war 2/vietnam etc films,oh can be foreign language ones too;)

Horror-wise, try Paranormal Activity or The Mist. If you can get the director's cut of The Mist in black and white, even better (it feels like a fifties paranoia-fest).

War film wise, have you seen The Hurt Locker? It's our generation's Platoon, according to James Cameron.

Any Martial arts films you recommend too?

The best Martial Arts films are the old Bruce Lee's

I haven't seen too many outside the classics when it comes to martial arts, but if you are looking for Eastern cinema, I loved The Good, The Bad and the Weird. It's essentially a Chinese Western, with a dash of Indiana Jones thrown in.

Martial arts wise I highly recommend the Lone Wolf and Cub film series.

If you've seen Shogun Assassain you know what to expect(the first 2 movies were basically cut in half, sewn together and released as SA)

There are 6 movies in total and not one turkey in the bunch.

The Mist and Let The Right One In would be my suggestions. The Mist is a true horror without any Hollywood cliches and Let The Right One In is probably the best horror I've seen in a long time. It's a Swedish film and is subtitled, still awesome though. ;)

As for War films I haven't seen it but my brother reckons Defiance is a good film.

Waltz with Bashir for your war movie.
