Gay stuff in the mainstream press

I've noticed this alot more in recent years. Articles about gay people wanting to do this and do that, petty stuff. There was a thread on here last week about gay people wanting to be the mannequins that stand beside the winner of a stage race in the giro d'Italia and Le Tour.
Why is stuff like this important to gay people? Most people don't give a **** and I'd imagine that if wanting to stand beside a winner of a cycle race with a sash around you is the sum total of your desires that your cause is a little smalltime, to say the least.

How do gay people feel about being misrepresented in the press with regard to these issues? Or do you feel misrepresented?

What are the real issues facing gay people that crap like this overshadows?

also, are gay people sick to death of Graham Norton too? Feel free to speak for everyone of your persuasion.

Because they want to be treated the exact same as everybody else.

Im not gay but have 2 mates who are. When it comes to Gay issues this country is still lagging behind.

They deserve a voice too. (a stronger one anyway)

EVERYONE is sick of him! Fortunately, as far as I'm aware, they haven't voted him as a spokesperson for their people.

This is the thing that gets me. They want to be treated the same as everyone else by trying to appear as different as possible making sure that everyone knows that their gay and proud. If you want to be treated as 'normal' (I'm not implying they're not normal), then stop polarising yourselves.

Grand. Same as everyone else. Send your finest lesbians to the podium, but not gay men. I don't ever remember seeing any male dolls, straight or gay, handing the flowers to the stage winner.

I'm also not gay. But have plenty of friends who are. They seem happy enough. What is a gay issue btw?

They have a voice. Same as everyone else. Using it to call for petty ****e demeans their position.

Some slight generalisations there my friend... but I suppose it cant be avoided. Now I dont speak for "My people" or anything. I might be gay ... pround? ceartinly not ashamed. I dont rub it in peoples faces... aint none of there business what I do in my free time... likewises you with yours. People assume Im straight and unless it comes up I dont go around shouting about it. So i guess I dont "polarise" myself nor would I want to. And well we all want to be trated as normal...cos I AM normal!

I guess the gay community have not always been accepted... hence where all this ... 'out & pround' stuff comes from .... also im sure unbeknown to you growing up as a teen is extra difficult when you have these 'issues!' to sort out in your own head. Heance (maybe) an extra feeling to crave acceptance. maybe 50 yrs down the road, it'll die out (probably not tho)

Back on Topic ... I dont feel misrepresented in the press as just cos theres some gay guy doing something... he doesnt represent me!

Does every straight person in the press represent all straight people?
(i see the error in that point but am playing devils advocat)
