Calm down! You just need to do a steady amount of work from now until June. Your teacher will be revising the course in class with you and giving you exam questions for homework if they are any sort of educator. If you've worked as hard as you can and still feel unprepared then go to pass levels.

OL isn't the option if you simply didn't study hard enough for your exams, in that case you just need to start working seriously. Even 20 minutes of studying a night in a certain subject will be good in the long run :D

I read over material until I can summarize it in my head, it shows that I've learnt it :3
Also helps you remember it :D

    I probably should.. XD
Will most likely take notes for Science. For History and Irish I'll practice writing out questions that come up each year. French my teacher does with us in class and the rest I think I just learn.
Don't ask how to do maths because I'm terrible at maths :p

    Not helpful at all.

OP, is it a case of you not studying, or just studying yet not understanding the material? If it's just a case of you not putting the work in, you can start now, put your head down and study hard for the next few months. Don't be negative, try and stay positive and set yourself achievable goals!

The Mocks are important for some people, they were for me. The Junior Cert if important for some people, they were for me! I can't stand other people dismissing the Junior Cert as simply 'nothing.' The Junior Cert sets a foundation for the Leaving Cert, and the more work you put in for the Junior Cert, the easier the transition will be from the Junior Cycle to the Senior Cycle. Yet, I'm not saying that if you don't do as well in the JC, you won't do as well in the LC, it's just you'll have that bit more work to do.

Don't try to study when tired, stick to studying for about 15 to 20 minutes and then take a 5 minute break.

Make sure you eat and drink regularly.

Also don't worry too much, no matter what anyone says there will come a day when you won't care what you got in the Junior cert.

Also, I failed Accounting in the leaving mocks, then I got a B in honours on the real thing a few months later.

Did you leave out questions or parts of questions?
It is far and away the most common reason candidates fail at Junior Cert. (in every subject).

3 things to do to pass a Junior Cert. exam.

    1. Believe you can

    2. Answer the right number/combination of questions.

    3. Answer the question you are asked.

Of course you can pass in June.
Work on 1., then make sure as far as possible you do 2. and 3..

While this couldnt look any less helpful, I'm inclined to agree.....

The Junior Cert will be easier than your mocks. That is (Obviously) dependent on whether you kinda cop on between now and then. You need to start studying now. Just break bits off into manageable chunks, and make notes on them, study the notes, and then answer the exam question.

Spurious often mentions how the Junior Cert is designed so that you can succeed. You can do it, but you will need to do some serious work between now and then.

Also, I know this is going to sound unpleasant, but Easter Break will not just be time off, you are going to have to do a bit of study. I'm saying spend every waking hour working, but you NEED to take advantage of the time you have left.

Im trying t study but i dont really know how

-Find or make yourself a nice quiet study area where you will not be disturbed.

-Have a goal set before you start the study period. Something you can get done in about 40 minutes.

-Study a topic you are in the mood to study.

-At the end, make notes of the most important point and any little ways that will help you remember information.

-After 40 minutes, take a 10 minute break, relax for a while. Don't do near TV/games.

    -Repeat this twice more.

-At the end of the night, review the material very quickly and review your notes.

-This is critical. The following day, review everything once. You forget 80% of the stuff you studied 24 hours earlier. By reading it again, it will help you to retain alot more.

-Eat well, get your 8 hours sleep per night.

Trust me, all the hard work you put in between now and June will be worth it when you collect those results and see grades you never thought you could achieve. I guarantee you that if you put in the effort, you will do it. Simple as that.

I got 32% in HL Science and 33% in HL Home Economics in the mocks. Got a B in both of them in the JC! You will improve, don't worry. Just take notes, invest in revision books and use your exam papers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭Chuchoter

Just do millions of exam questions from the paper. Literally every single one,a nd then see if your teacher will correct some of them. Just reading the book/notes is a waste of time.

If your writing notes, use as much colour as possible and space everything out really well. Do everything in bullet points.

Also, as someone else has said, the JC is easier than the mocks (but not that much easier, still though). Go crazy studying over the easter break.

There is no right or wrong way to study, in the case of Geography try and get your head around why you need to know it.

Get old test papers and get somebody to test you and work out what area you need to improve.

    Note to all JC students

I failed the LC. I only got 95 points back in 1999 when I sat it.

I am now a Chartered Surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors so dont worry, Teachers are just trying to put the wind up ya, Kids learn are different speeds
