HI Folks I am looking for a bit of advice .
I worked for a company and had a company van which the company insured in their own name for the he last 10 years with myself as a named driver. I am also a named driver for the last 12 years on my wife’s insurance.
The company have gone bust and I have started my own business but when I was looking into getting a van insured most places are treating this as my first policy and are looking for 2K for the year.
Is it ok to buy the van in my wife’s name and let her insure the van with open insurance
Will I still be able to claim the van and insurance as a tax expense at the end of the year and will I be able to claim vat back on the van.
Or is there another cheaper way of getting a van and insurance.

You can only claim VAT back on a commercial vehicle to the best of my knowledge, so it might have to go down as a commercial policy which I would assume your wife wouldnt have which is why its being treated as your first policy. You can also claim the vat back on the diesel if its a diesel van. Someone whos more up on the accounting side of things might confirm this for you.

Open insurance does not usually cover a spouse unless they are a named driver. You will get a more accurate response in the motors forum.
