    Hi,

I know there are alot of threads already on the subject of PGDEs in the UK so feel free to ignore but I would be very grateful of any help.

Are there any sources online or otherwise that compare and contrast British colleges for the purposes of teacher training? My choices have so far been defined by locality but I am eager to study somewhere that has excellent resources and is well recognised. If you can recommend anywhere from your own experiences please do so. I want to teach secondary level students and my undergrad is in Mathematics.

    Thanks in advance,
    Sissy

I was reading this UK forum http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=97 a few weeks ago and stumbled across the listing you require. Hopefully the forum has a search function. Otherwise needle in haystack

It was probably in the big 'where are you applying to do a pgce' thread but couldn't be sure

Oh make sure it's an 11-18 pgce you picked. Don't think the teaching council here like 11-16 pgce's

the sunday times university guide is one source

    http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/stug/universityguide.php

And on the right hand side you can choose what area to search for the uni rankings in. (eg Education)

Many Thanks pathway33 and DaisyPem. I was talking to a teacher today that studied in Essex. She had an absolute horrid experience but in her case it was more personal reasons I think. All information is golden so thanks again.

    Look up http://www.tes.co.uk/community.aspx
The prospective student teacher and student teacher forums are good.
About the PGCE being well recognised it doesn't matter where you study it as at the end of the day once you get the PGCE qualification leading to qualified teacher status you're grand, which most of the postgrads on the gttr course search are. Seeing as you want to do maths you're sorted as they've such a shortage of maths teachers they're even taking people who's undergrads are in things like psychology for maths PGCEs. Research the colleges on their own websites and see which appeal to you.

For Irish students St Marys Twickenham, Edge Hill in Liverpool, Middlesex Uni in London and Canterbury Christchurch Uni are supposed to be good as they know the Irish system from taking in so many students from over here every year.

I'm going to be doing my PGCE in geography in Manchester Metropolitan University next year if you want to ask me any questions :)

Thanks computersaysno. Edge Hill is currently my top choice. It's purely based on the fact I'd prefer to live in the North West rather than London. I've been considering Manchester Metropolitan University aswell. I've alot more research to do. I'm eager to get the application done asap. It's been hanging over me for what seems like an age.

By the way, best of luck in your course!
