Loose Handbrake Cable/Brake hose?

    Hi All,

First time poster but regular reader.
I have a loose handbrake cable close to my rear right wheel. It isn't causing any functional issues whatsoever but obviously needs to be clipped back in.

The car is an astra, have called Opel in Dublin and they said they will look at it for me next week but added that there is an hourly 'diagnostic' charge of EUR100.

Can someone confirm my suspicions that this should be a fairly small job and if so am i better off making off my local mechanic down the country when i am home again in the next few weeks?

Furthermore, has anyone else here had lousy service from Opel dealerships in the past? The few places I've been, i find that they generally come across a little disinterested- maybe it's just me.

    Anyway, thanks for any advice

I reckon this is a brake hose rather than a handbrake cable :)What drew your attention to it ?

Ok, you might know more about it. If it's the brake hose- would it still fit into the small job bracket?

Just spotted it when walking back to the car. Has dropped probably about 3/4 inches.

I wouldn't want to trivialise an issue with brakes without seeing the car, however I would not think it necessary to bring it to Opel, any decent garage will sort this for you. Have a peak at the brake fluid reservoir under the bonnet to check it's at the correct level, if all is well there it should only be a clip or something.

Is there one next to the left wheel in the correct position? You should be able to guage from that how they are supposed to be fixed on - whether it's a plastic clip that's broken on the right hand side, or something more.

You never know, it could be fixed with a 5c cable tie and nothing more than your own dirty fingernails, but as RoverJames pointed out - don't go messing around with the brakes unless you are sure.

Checked the brake fluid level- close to max.
Just noticed that there is a cable tie higher on the hose already so maybe it fell before. Seems to be missing the equivalent clip beside the other rear wheel.

Will leave it to the garage at home. Hopefully, it just needs the clip.

Thanks for the responses RoverJames and R.O.R
