    Hi guys,

Basically i'm a little freaked out about how my life is going and need some advice, inspiration or opininons. I'm a 23(24 next month) year old female. I did a college course from the age of 18 to 20 and completed it. It was always my intention to return to do my degree. However, here I am nearly four years on, i'm in a job i don't like the last 3 years and up to my eyes in debt. Don't get me wrong it's a good job and pays well but its not me and I just feel like i've wasted years. It was a family member that got me this job so I don't even have the heart to tell them that I want to leave. I feel really low, all my friends have got their degrees and their careers mapped out and they are all away travelling and here I am not even 100% what I want to do stuck in a job that does nothing for me with a big pile of debt. I don't want to me one of those people who looks back in years to come and says I regret not doing ....

well, first things first - pay off your debt asap.

work out a repayment plan - completely cut back on everything, get debt free, leave your job and go travelling.

its really easy to do, if you put your mind to it

you are only 23 relax - you have loads of time to do everything

    make a plan

Thanks Irishbird, im more 24 than 23.

I've cut right back on my spending. I'm ashamed to say it but my debt was 21k at one stage and I have it down to just under over 13,500k. If I stick at it I should have it cleared in a couple of years. Then i'm thinking if I take out a Credit Union loan maybe and clear them all and put it over 3 or 4 years it will free up some cash to do more with my life. Confused.com!!!

It seems to me the problem is less to do with your circumstances than the fact that you are simply feeling low at the moment. Leaving your job is unlikely to solve your problems, as the job market is really tough out there. Work with the situation you are in now. Sure things are hard, but the answer is not to run away, though this is an understandable response, but to use the situation to build resilience, work on your self esteem and confidence, and learn how to manage your mood.

    Thanks alias,

Will have a read through these, but it is a lot to do with my life at the moment, if I was happy with my career where my life is going not in debt etc, it would make sense that I would feel happier in myself.

Stop worrying about what your friends have "mapped" out, they are all going travelling you say? That to me says that they are pretty unsure about what their options are, and are just sidestepping that problem by travelling for a year. No-one has anything perfectly mapped out and even if they do, it doesn't always work out perfectly. ;) Concentrate on you and what will make you happy in life.

I'm not worried about my friends where did you get that idea i'm just giving a comparison. I am concentrating on my that's the whole point and i'm not doing what is going to make me happy at the moment, that's the point.

Well you are doing great on reducing the debt and that is something to be happy about.

I really hope you have something to show for the 21k!!!

have you considered a second job to help clear the debt quicker? for 3 years i worked 2 jobs and went to college two evenings a week - i had just bought a house though and was paying off a lot of renovation work.

you could start back at college in the evenings or distance learning in september.

its hard work but its worth it in the end.

I was planning to go back in September in fact i've planned to go back every September for the last 3 years but it's hard trying to get the money together to pay for it. I am also looking for a second job.
