Women like stubble, so I'd say the grizzly gets more. He wins.

Same has been happening with the Grizzly and the Black Bear for years with both of their natural habitats being imposed on.

They gonna get it on bear-style:
"As grizzly bears move into areas usually populated only by polar bears, hybrids between the two become more likely. "

Polar bears are bigger and heavier but that wouldn't be it. Grizzly has bigger claws and a stronger paw swipe, as well as a more tenacious temperament and stronger build. It's like comparing say Joe Calzaghe to some big fat 270 pound fella in a pub fight.

A proposed showdown between inter-ursine species don't offer a sufficiently staisfying scenario for me to ponder at work here.

Not like, say, an environment-neutral face-off between a tiger and polar bear where both were female and had been slyly led to believe that the other contestant was intending to munch on their babies.

A Siberian Tiger? Love tigers, may be biased here, but if it can be agile enough, it'll win. Brown bears and Siberian Tigers do exist in each others habitat in Siberia.

The bear would have more power; the tiger agility.

The bear would be better face-on, whereas the tiger would suffer for losing the element of surprise.

I also think the bear's paws are a bonus, being a better weapon than those of the tiger who would have to rely on bite alone.

A tiger has retractable claws, bears non and blunt. Advantage tiger. However bears have thick skin/fur so damage would be reduced.

If the tiger jumped on its back, the bear is ****ed. One swift bite. Tigers tend to use their weight by throwing it around, even on prey that's bigger that itself. The tiger won't fight it head on.

Think about the power of a bears paws for swatting though, not just the claws.

    I wish I was a roman citizen with a Colosseum season-ticket.

Tigers too agile to get swiped imo.

Did they even have bears in the Colosseum?

I know Russell Crowe stabbed a tiger :(

Or Trent. He can kill a lion with his hands. Not an elephant though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭yimrsg

Loss of habitat for polar bears (artic) and increasing habitat (tundra) for grizzlies would suggest the grizzlies by numbers as the polar bear niche declines.

Though polar bears could have traits of brown bears to even the odds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear#Taxonomy_and_evolution

Bloody college making me remember stuff.

Would it lose to the elephant of surprise though?

Bear can give bear hug to tiger and squish it.

Bear Grylls would kick both their asses...........

.....Then skin them, make a two story fort out of the carcasses, eat the rest, wash it down with his own pee and tell a story of "A guy he knew" who died by eating a bear.
