    Hello everyone.

First off, I would like to ask that you do not tell me to look in another thread because believe you me, I have. I have been searching for suitable martial arts classes in my area for god knows how long and obviously I haven't had any success. I always try to find an answer on my own first and only ask for help as a last resort. So thats why I'm here. So please don't hate me for having seen this same question a million times. ^^

    Anyway, onto the point.

I live about half an hour from Galway city and can't find any martial arts classes in my town that I'm interested in. So, in desperation, I've turned to the closest city, Galway. Now here's the problem, I'm currently in secondary school and it would be almost impossible for me to travel to Galway during the week. Therefore, I can only go to classes during the weekend. I really wanted to start kickboxing at the black dragon club but it's only on during the week :( I'm thinking of starting a kendo beginner's class in Galway which is starting soon. Anyone take this class and have any opinions on it??? Or what age group it's for??? I also wanted to start bujinkan budo taijutsu but I believe that you must be 17 to join, please correct me if I'm wrong. By the way I'm almost 16, just thought I'd say that in case there are other martial arts that you have to be a certain age to join.

Basically thats all the classes I could find which were on during the weekend. So my question to all of you is: do you know of any martial arts classes on during the weekend in Galway city??? Preferably not very late in the evening either or not too far from the city because I will most likely be getting the bus.

Also, regarding classes that take place in colleges, are they only for students of that particular college???

    Thank you in advance. ^^

Where outside of galway do you live, or at least what general direction.
I know that there are several judo clubs scattered through out the county.

As for NUI,G clubs the basic policy is that if your not a student you don't
train. Some clubs may enforce this stricter than others. Being a minor you
will present additional issues of consent, child protection etc... etc...

With regards to Bujinkan. My club is 16's+ so I'm guessing Alan's in Galway is too. At the moment his webiste says Wednesdays only but I know he's building a dojo so that probably means extra classes are coming soon. You should ring him - His contact details are

Been doing Bujinkan for over 20 years myself - Alan is one of the best.

I live in Loughrea. I think there is a judo club here but I'm not a big fan of judo. Plus, even if there were classes here I still probably wouldn't be able to go during the week, school has literally taken over my life. :( Thanks anyway. ^^

Just checked the site and Sunday classes in Oranmore are beginning in May. Hopefully you only have to be 16 to join. ^^ Thanks.

There's a class in Point Blank (website in sig) on Saturdays but it wouldn't really be suitable for begineers.

Check out http://www.seama-academy.org there is training on there on Saturdays I think.

If you're in Loughrea then you've already got Dan O'Callaghan who runs a full time martial arts and fitness club. He has Juniors class and is an excellant instructor. Here's a link to his site:

Oh, I saw this place in town but I thought it was just a gym. I think I might join the muay thai classes there. Thanks. ^^
