My core solo 2.0ghz macbook of 2 and a half years suddenly shutdown today. After much diagnosing i whittled it down to one of the two ram ports causing this, is this repairable or will i need a new logic board - also is it possible to put 2gb of ram in the one slot as I'm left with 1gb and only after a few hours am missing the extra gb :(

any good laptop repair shop should be able to fix it. It's probably cold/loose joint.

Not likey. They'll probably end up wanting to replace the Logic Board, I don't know of any repair shop that's gonna break out a soldering iron to fix a ram slot, the components are just way too small.

oh c'mon, they are small, but not too small to solder ;)

I was talking once to a lad from computers unlimited in phibsboro, he said they fix motherboards on component level. I would say it is half an hour job for good tech.

    try them first.

Thanks for the replies, i wil give computers unlimited a ring and see if they can do anything, definitely not paying upwards of €600 for logic board replacement when the computer works just fine on one stick of ram.

Will a 2gb stick in one port work as well as 2 1gb sticks in two ports as i remember reading that ddr2 works better in pairs of the same amount.
