Is there any companies that offer temporary euro breakdown cover whilst you are abroad. My cover only covers me for Ire/UK.

I think it was Blue Insurance I got it from last year - it was a very good deal if I remember correctly compared to getting the same via Hibernian as an extension to my existing cover.
On their website they quote €85 for one year's cover including Europe.

Try ADAC they're a German company. Around the €80 mark. I will be getting my breakdown cover with them in April for a jaunt down to Italy.

ADAC in Germany will give you their top level cover all over Europe for around €70 a year.

I must read up on their cover, but as far as mates who have used them before are concerned, they will give you a rental car if your car is in a bad way. Tow it home if it's more serious. For a company that covers breakdown on the Nurburgring (sp?) you can't go wrong.

The good thing about the ADAC cover is that it's not just for holidays, it's like the top level AA cover for the whole year, all over Europe. My AA cover expires next month (was paying €250 a year, the thieving b*st*rds).
I'll give you three guesses where i'll be taking my business :D

BTW, you do not need an address in Germany to get the cover...

Paid 200 myself last Sept for 12 days in europe with the AA was a bit of a last minute thing but needed it badly as our trip involved 3 days at the nurburgring and then ALOT more driving after that. While at the ring ADAC had a stall there prices looked sweet, didnt realise i could use them as alot of UK companies would not touch an irish car plus one thats a 95

    The AA is €129

Blue Insurance is €85 but if you look at http://www.breakdowncover.ie it is the exact same Insurance Policy and company for €79.

THIS ALSO provides you with 365 days a year breakdown cover in Ireland, something the AA will not give you.

Aviva also offer the insurance for €192.

AA might be €129 but for the basic package... It's €22 a month for the Rescue Plus with homestart package.

€129 just for the holiday. You get nothing else.

Breakdown cover gives you 365 cover + a trip to mainland Europe.

However, the terms are a little worse. Less overnight allowance, less towards labour, less towards car hire.

    ADAC all the way so!!!

Finally the germans got something right

Yes, but there is an english language section...

On the www.adac.de homepage, there are six grey tabs at the top of the page... One of them is called "mitgliedschaft". In the drop down menu under that tab, you will see "ADAC membership". Click on that and you will see an english language page.

You can't join online because their system will not recognise an irish address. But if you ring them, they'll be able to help you.

The ADAC is not just a roadside assistance insurance, it's also a complete travel insurance, all for €79.50 :-)

    This is what they cover:
    Breakdown and accident assistance
Verhicle recovery back to Germany (not very useful for us)
    Key service
    Overnight stay
Parts delivery service from Germany (handy if you drive a german car, parts are cheaper over there)
Assistance after theft of the vehicle
(all of this is europe wide coverage)

There is also a wide range of coverage as a travel insurance.

This is the link of what they cover:

    (german only)

Just use the phone number that's on the website... +49 1805 10 11 12 and wait for someone to answer. Ask them if they speak english, you'll see how helpful they are.

Apols for reviving this ancient thread again, but...

    They sure are :)
The woman on the phone was tremedously fluent and helpful - as were the others at ADAC I spoke to before her.

After reading about ADAC recently I was going to give them a look when my AA came up for renewal - turned out the renewal happened quicker than I thought it would and the AA just did their annoying auto-renewal without telling me.
ADAC's rates are excellent and for all I really need it for, like being towed off a motorway, it's without comparison. I would have stuck with the AA if they'd been anywhere near them in price, but the killer deal from ADAC was the inclusion of the girlfriend for a mere €20 extra - it's like having two seperate cover plans for less than half what the AA was charging me for one.
    I think I'll do a happy dance now :D

roadrescue.ie are the cheapest for a fairly comprehensive package. They do the standard roadside repairs, with a tow to a garage if they can't fix it roadside. They'll ship the car home and get it to your house or a mechanic (or pay for you to retrieve it if it gets sorted) if it can't be fixed abroad.
