    Hi all,

Myself and my Fiancee are considering having a child before we get married and i'm just wondering what benefits, if any, we would be entitled to, and if the fact that we're not married will have any bearing on it. We're not having a baby just to get money but we are interested to know what kind of support we would get. It might also be worth noting that we live together in a house thats in my name but that we both pay for. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Barry

I don't know anything about child benefit since I don't have children, but you should consider as the father of a child born out of wedlock, Ireland gives you very little automatic rights to custody and access etc. in the case of relationship breakdown.

    Something to consider.

I was in the same situation and they will only pay it to the mother and her bank accountand and there is no issue with being married or not. you can get it paid to the father buts its hassle I think.

You will get child benefit and that is all.
As you are not married you can not share taxes.
As you live together you do not get any extra tax credits.
Look in to the cost of childcare in your area as child benefit is 150 euro pm and creches can be 1k + a month for a baby full time.

Cheers guys, child benefit is all i would have expected we'd get but wasn't sure if there was anything. Is there something called FIS (Family Income Support) that we could avail of or is that means tested.
