Hey, does anyone know what the story is with putting extra seats into a van?
I'm in a band and looking for a cheap van, there seems to be a lot out there but they don't have enough seats.

Is it possible to just bolt in extra seats in the cargo area?

you'll need to fit seatbelts and pay VRT.

    what's your budget?

As said, you will become liable for VRT.

    Did you consider a crewcab?

Extra V.R.T for putting in extra seats?

Not entirely sure of budget but we'd probably be looking at between €2-4000.

Yes, a crewcab would be ideal but come at quite the premium!

    !

You'd be converting from commercial to passenger. You'd also have to put in windows and present to Wexford for testing!

Oh, and a bulkhead. Passengers must be physicall separated from cargo. Safety!

    Local VRO will do.

Oh lord, that's a big heap of hoops to jump through! Might be better to get a passenger vehicle (VW Caravelle or similar) and rip out a row of seats.

Yet a standard commercial jeep dosent have a bulkhead....

^^^^ Just double check it's either a 350 Jumbo, or you have C1 on the only driver's licence.

Jumbo was available in over 3.5Ton variants.

ROR, isn't the jumbo just under 3.5 ton? I think cormie has one on a car license.

Jumbo 350 is OK on a car licence. There is also a Jumbo 460 - which is 4.6Ton. Used to be a Jumbo 430 up to a couple of years ago. We have an 07 Jumbo 430 that was ordered as a 350. Don't know if the driver is aware, or if he's even licenced properly to drive it.

I had to take it up to the Ford dealer for a recall as I'm the only one in our office with C1.

I don't have the Jumbo myself, just a LWB/Hi Roof and then the other is a Luton body, both 3.5 GVW :)

Nipplenuts is right on the stuff you have to do. Seat belts, windows AND A bulkhead, a conversion would cost a few grand, much better buying an already converted one.

I looked into this before myself and that's what I found out too, there may be a thread from ages ago on it.

    Tax in terms of what?

Motor tax is based on vehicle weight, not sure what other taxes may be incurred.
