Voice audio when using game chat

    Hi folks,

Friends and I have recently started playing Search & Destroy - and obviously we can't use the Xbox Party chat for this. So we turned our privacy settings for voice to only friends and used the game chat. There is a noticeable quality difference between the two chat modes, but you can still talk away fine between lobbies, but once a game starts everyone has trouble hearing eachother, sometimes intermittant, sometimes fine, sometimes nothing. If we use Party Chat and play Ground War we have no issues.

As anyone else come across this and perhaps found a fix ?

    Broadband providers involved are Vodafone/NTL/Eircom

Not got a fix for you, but why would you restrict yourself like that? Don't see any reason not to just use the Game Chat. I mean you can still call out locations/strategy to each other...

because in S&D you can hear both teams chats

Really? Okay. Didn't know that. Thanks. Never played S&D as it strikes me as a game for party's only. As in you'd get slaughtered as a random.

That said, it does seems really strange for them to do that. Any logical explanation for it?

because we don't want to listen to the moaners and all the other rubbish you hear from people calling each other names etc. Plus we won't necessarily be talking about the game, we have a good old natter too :pac:

I don't think you can hear about teams - only in the game lobby

if it was down to one connection - why is it not an issue playing groud war and using xbox live party chat ?

In my experience be it high ping or unstable broadband speeds can cause chat to become intermittant , only one persons bad connection can cause this also if the headset is not fully connected on one persons joypad then this too can cause intermittant speech or a very bad echo.

Are you sure about this? I took your answer as read, but just did a wee bit of looking, and while no one specifically states it as fact, the impression I get from reading a few google hits is that this isn't the case.

People talk of the importance of chat, so you can talk strategies. Hardly likely to do this if the other team can hear you.

cheers Shammy - that would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that we went straight into Ground war using Party chat, and everyone can hear eachother clearly. Then we went back to Search and Destory and we get the intermittant chat via Gamechat.

Fair enough, but isn't the name calling only etc in lobby? Maybe not...

I'd have thought the benefits of calling out tactics/locations would be the most important point in a objective based game like S&D.

I was sure I could hear the opposing team when i was playing shouting, "He's in that building" that building being where I was ?!

You sure it wasn't your teammate warning you about an enemy approaching you? ;)

But seriously, I can't say for definite given I've never played S&D. I just would be surprised if they changed the settings for this game mode alone. Since it isn't the case with all the others.

Why don't you just go in as a party, switch to game chat and then quick mute everyone you don't want to listen to in the ingame stats menu.

And with hearing the both teams. You hear your own team when playing but everyone that dies is put in the lobby and can only talk to people that died. The people still alive cant hear you.

I have been unable to play online from 6pm to 12midnight with vodafone broadband, due to the fact that when i switched over from bt 24:1 contention ratio , it got bumped up to 48:1 with vodafone , the exchange is due an upgrade but not anytime soon. i know thousands of people are in the same position as me

Depending on where you are situated i suppose with regards to vodafone / eircom.

I'd have thought that if you mute them, that they could still hear you??
