Bolton Match

Harry Redknapp will have a few players missing for Wednesday night's FA Cup replay against Bolton.
Ledley King (thigh), Aaron Lennon (groin) and Jermaine Jenas (groin) will sit it out alongside cup-tied pair Younes Kaboul and Kyle Walker.
Harry reported that winger Aaron had suffered a 'bit of a setback' on his road to recovery following fresh scans on his injured groin. "He's worked hard on the training ground every day, so it's the last thing he wanted," said Harry. "But he'll get on with it and I'm sure he'll come back as good as ever." Further specialist advice is being sought on how best to rehabilitate Aaron's injury.
Better news sees Benoit Assou-Ekotto back in full training after suffering a hip injury in December.
Longer-term injuries Carlo Cudicini (pelvis, wrist) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) remain out but again, there is good news as goalkeeper Carlo has started ball work this week.
I think we should rest defoe for this one to really make him want to score on sunday but I'd say we'll line up like this
    Gomes
    Corluka--Dawson--Bassong--Bale
    Bently--Palacios--Hudd--Modric
    Defoe---Pav

this will decide if we have some fight left in us.

great win sunday but now its the cup. league takes a back seat for a bit

Think Bolton are talking bout resting a few players cos of their league predicament but even so we should be taking the likes of Bolton at home. Hoping for a nice little victory on this one.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't win tonight.

Again, I can't see it being easy but I fancy we'll get through by the odd goal. Possibly 2-1.

should win this easy enough 3-0, big question is does he start pav.

    STARTING XI -
    Gomes;
    Assou-Ekotto, Bassong, Dawson, Bale;
    Bentley, Huddlestone, Palacios, Modric;
    Defoe, Pavlyuchenko.

SUBS - Alnwick, Dervite, Kranjcar, Rose, Gudjohnsen, Harry Kane (U18s captain, forward), Paul Jose Mpoku (U18s, attacking midfield).

    Is corluka injured or somethng?

good decision to play ekotto right back i think. charlie has been poor of late and ekotto is a better defender then him.

Ekotto is a top class defender and he'll get down and dirty without any problems in fact I think he prefers to play a bit dirty tbh

just watching the match and i was just thinking how great it is not to have any players running like headless chickens around the pitch with their hands up giving out (robbie and jenas).

jaaskellianan looks void of any confidence at the moment

Watching on the FA stream and am quite impressed with the quality.

    So far, so good.

Seems like we've taken the foot off the pedal since the third goal.

Have to say that Bolton look half the team without Kevin Davies.

Shame this wasn't a league game. Would have been good for our goal difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Dave11

Overall a good performance but against a very very poor Bolton side. Would be seriously pi**ed if I was a Bolton fan and travelled the whole way down to see my team lye down and think about Wolves on the weekend!!

I think Pav deserves a special mention and not only cause of the rough treatment he has been getting! His overall play was excellent...his control and distribution is leaps and bounds ahead of Crouch!!!! Harry.... pay attention!!

good win watched it on that fa stream for second half impressive quality. roll on fulham.coys

Pav hopefully just made it impossible for Harry to drop him although i'm concerned with our defense giving a lot of chances away that a better side could punish us.

    good perfomance.

gomez again was super. he has turned me into a big fan of is. not easy done, im a stubborn git!

    pav was good.
    bale excellant
BAE was poor with his distribution i thought.
bassong was good, surprisingly for me i dont like him.
gudjohson was good when he came on.

dont think anyone was poor but just a couple of my thoughts before i hit the hay for you all!!

Harry Redknapp hailed Roman Pavlyuchenko after the in-form striker netted another brace to fire Tottenham into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The Russian striker scored in the 23rd and 87th minute, respectively, as Spurs beat Bolton 4-0, including two own goals, to secure their progression to face Fulham.
Redknappspacer.gif rewarded the striker with his first Tottenham start since 27th October in the game after he hit a brace as a substitute in the Premier League win at Wigan on Sunday.
Afterwards the Spurs boss praised the striker, who was desperate to leave White Hart Lanespacer.gif in the winter transfer window.
    Quality finisher

Redknapp said: "He took his goals well, he is a quality finisher and he has proven that again tonight.
"Last week he was excellent in training, he was the best player in everything we did, he looked like he wanted to play.
"Nobody wants to see him do well more than me; it makes my job a lot easier.
"He is a very nice lad, but he is laid back and some days he needs a rocket. He's playing like he's had a rocket."
Redknapp added: "He's in the team now, his confidence should be high and it is up to him to play well, he is bang in form and I wouldn't see myself leaving him out of the team at the weekend."
Pav and defoe up front on Sunday so :)

good stuff last night, thought bale and bae did well going forward but we were opened up a bit too easy a few times and only for some bad finishing and some could saves from gomez( who really is becoming a bit of a legend) we could have shipped a few.

Pav was suberb, he has that composure that could actually keep us in fourth right till the last day. I get the feeling he would love to play against the big four and perform.

Was corluka rested or is harry worried about his lack of pace? he is a good player but has been got out a few times recently(birmingham leveller) and seems to be getting slower all the time.
Gudjohnson looked good, lovely finish for his goal that should have stood. Anyone watch it on setanta? I only stumbled across it by accident.

great stuff tonight at the lane. pav has jumped way ahead of crouch in my opinion now, he is so mobile and very intelligent. crouch would have missed both those chances that pav but away

hudd was superb tonite as was bassong. looks like we could be over our little blip, just in time!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Mullo76

watched in on setanta Ire, handy. Only thing is I cant watch any of the studio stuff as Dolan is the panel and he makes my ears bleed listening to him.

Anyway, on the game. Good win against a very poor Bolton.
On the more critical side -
Bale didnt stand up to the questions about his defensive frailties on a few occasions.
BAE - Defo not an option at right full on last nights display. Too left footed and every time he got the ball he cut inside and passed the ball cross the pitch.

Overall I thought we were sloppy with our passing too often, indeed letting them in a few times due to it. We will be killed on sun if we do this against everton.

    Positives - The win
Gomez - yet again a rock, some save from the header.
    Bale - going forward.
Pav - super game, great movement, good finishing. deserves to keep his place.

    Sure theres loads I missed.

Last point I wish the crowd would stop telling Wilson to shoot when he gets within 30 yards of goal - he actually does shoot but couldnt hit an airplane hanger from 10 yards - hopefully he'll score a screamer on sun now after me saying that:D

guys. this is the way to look at it

scored 7 in last two games, conceded 0

in 4th place and quarter final of fa cup.

the season is seriously on track

Agree with the above from an overall perspective we are doing very well.

I will also say though part of the joy of football as a supporter is debating the good, the bad and the ugly. There are positives and negatives to come from every game and the development/recognition of these by the mgmnt is part of what allows the team to improve week in/week out. Despite scoring 4 last night and conceeding 0 there are things we could have done better. But you can only beat whos in front of you. For me this season we havent learned enough from our shortcomings. Stoke Wolves Hull Wolves being my example. If at the end of the season we have an fa cup and a 4th place I will still believe this.
