This is one suggestion that comes up again and again when I have talked to people about issues I have

That I have a severe lack of confidence.

How does one actually go about building up confidence. It just seems like the most alien concept in the world to me

Without knowing the context of your confidence problem, I can only say that the easiest way to build it up is by giving yourself a break. If things go wrong, don't beat yourself up. Think positively, and learn from your mistakes.

Some confidence problems stem from a fear of the unknown, so get your hands dirty and see what happens. Sometimes a lack of confidence is nothing more than a fear of trying in case things go wrong. Fact is, things do go wrong. I doubt that there is one person on the planet who has had a perfect life. You just have to be brave.
