Bonus Pay

3 years ago I was offered entry into my employers bonus scheme in-lieu of a payrise.
It was a fair compromise for both of us at the time.
Payment of the bonus was dependent on performance targets and company profitability.
Based on this I have been getting a bonus payment for the last couple of years.
In the meantime the company has been taken over but has continued to expand and be profittable.
In this situation, should the bonus scheme continue or is the new employer entitled to stop the scheme as it was an agreement with the old company?
What rights would I have if the bonus were to be stopped?
