Any thoughts on the Rugby Team as is?

Are they welcoming to new people?

Currently are they percieved as or focused on being a GAY rugby team or a gay RUGBY team?

I looked at the website and the age profile seems to be older, and it feels like they might be kinda closed circle?

On the rugby side would they be a good team for an absolute newbie or?

Ran into one of the team members in front lounge, he was actively trying to recruit me even after I told him I've never played. So yes they are open to new inexperience members and no it doesn't seem to be a closed shop.

I don't know what you mean by "GAY rugby team or a gay RUGBY team" though.

    Cheers for prompt reply.

Is the emphasis on the gay or on the rugby part... Is it a gay social club, and perhaps even scene focused or is it a rugby team where all the members just happen to be gay (and perhaps the gay rugby team is about their only social activity with other gay people)

I think what you're asking is do they spend more time bouncing around the George then out on arugby pitch. The answer I would say is no. It's definitely a rugby team, they compete in a league and train regularly. That said all sporting clubs have some social aspect to ithem. There was a shed load of members in the front lounge watching the Ireland - France match a couple weeks ago.

Heres some links on the club

    Gay Rugby In Ireland
Thread about why the club was set up and it's ethos.

[Article] I Ruck, Therefore I Am; Good Article about being on a gay rugby team.

Emerald Warriors on TG4 tomorrow night ; Some interesting posts which may address your questions.

coming out - rugby player ; A few good posts.

Emerald Warriors Recruitment ; Again some good posts relevant to competing.

Emerald Warriors - New Season ; Detailed posts about training and accreditation.

    Thanks a mill Boston.

The links are great, had read a few of them but particularly liked the "I ruck therefore I am" as had never seen it before and was interesting to see the history of Mark Bingham.

Anybody with any personal experiences please comment...

Emerald warriors are a RUGBY TEAM comprised if Gay, Straight and Bi-sexual men. We are not a closed shop by any means and have players ranging in age from early 20's to early 40's. Some like myself have been playing for a long time and others (most of the team) had never played before joining the warriors. There is both a serious side and a social side to the club and we always welcome new members and supporters alike!
