Is it low on fluid? dont put atf oil in these use only vw spec green pas oil. for the level to drop u must have a power steering leak. Have you checked the oil level?

I think the Fabia uses semi electric power steering (electric motors in addition to hydraulic fluid, maybe that's called electro-hydraulic) it's common enough for the little motors to burn out, meaning your steering gets gradually heavier then really heavy.

I'd imagine its the motor as they're very common to go wrong.

should i just take it into the garage to be safe so do ye think?? apparently the power steering fluid is located under the battery so can't really see the level of fluid in it

well then it could be a number of things. best to get it checked for faults, most common problem would be a faulty steering angle sensor:)

I'd bring it to a Skoda dealer, they can hook it up to their computer and see all logged faults. It's a pretty common complaint on Fabias. You don't have to get the part (if it's the motor) from Skoda, they're available spurious as well.

    Be careful here........

I'm not 100% sure about Skoda and the electric PAS but I do know that most VW Group power steering requires genuine fluid. If you use ATF (as most power steering systems do) it will leak in a VW.

Best off to top up with genuine Skoda fluid. You can buy it from any Skoda dealer. Part number G 002 000.
