Swine flu - a question...

We (wife and I) got a letter from our daughters school requesting that we say "Yes" or "No" by filling in a consent form, to having her inoculated.
Ok, fair enough but does anyone know what's the current status of this flu virus and what's the current up to date story over the inoculations?
Its not really a medical question but more a general knowledge one.

It's apparently losing momentum now thanks to the worldwide response.

I didn't take the vaccination and neither did many other of my mates and we're all ok (The ones who did take it are ok too of course :pac:)

The general consensus in the medical world is that the vaccine is perfectly safe. There are, however, people who disagree.

The number of new cases being reported each week is on the decline but it is still there.

I wont advise you one way or the other as medical advice isn't allowed.

Talk to Tallaght01; very knowledgeable on this subject.

There is the Health Science forum too.

Afaik, if your daughter doesn't have any other condition she will be fine without the jab. Pretty much all killed had other issues too.

its just the seasonal flu this year simple as that

your child could get it and will probably be fine after a week or so if they do

the swine flu jab is harmless

so its really up to you what you do i dont see a reason not to get the jab tbh

I was reading (somewhere) that they plan to incorporate the swine flu vaccine in the seasonal flu vaccine. Can't remember where I heard it though

Cheers - whats the story anyway with the swine flu?
    Has the threat been downgraded?

Billions made, billions more to be made so doubt it will be downgraded too much, no matter what the 'truth' of the situation happens to be.

I think it is a sad world we live in where companies can make billions from global health "pandemics", or even the threat of them.

    Here's the CDC's current take:

Was it France that was selling off its stockpile of vaccine at a fraction of the original cost recently?

I may not be much help, but I have a suppressed immune system due to medication. I got both seasonal flu vaccine and swine flu vaccine. Within in one week I got swine flu. I can't honestly blame either vaccine, but I do recommend that you get you children immunised.

I never felt anything like it in my life and it honestly kicked the shit out of me for about a week or two! I couldn't eat or sleep and the pain was unreal, plus breathing became very hard at times even though I'm pretty fit and love running!

So, even with whatever concerns you may have, consult your doctor and get your child immunised.

I was/am in the "with-your-condition-your-f***ed-if-you-catch-swine-flu" category. Got the swine flu, took to the bed, plenty of miwadi, grand 4 days later.

I got it before the Mid Term, and I didn't cry!

the jab won't harm you, but swine flu could. people say it was '' just another media scare''. it wasn't the only reason the situation was not worse was the quick response and the reason for less hype now, is that those most at risk are long since vaccinated. it was not a media thing, it was serious, and could still be serious.

Has anyone else actually contracted swine flu?

According to the HSE the number of swine flu cases is now very low, but pandemics usually have a second wave and is "very likely" to return in autumn/winter. Free Vaccinations will continue until the end of March.

Yeah, wasn't as extreme as yours by the sound of things, but it wasn't the most fun I've ever had either.
