On the new SONY freesat kdl40z5800, if you select ireland and scan ,you get
the RTE DTT service and on the sat part you get all the FTA channels but not the freesat EPG service ,after a bit of head scratching i changed the auto
install to UK and the the freesat symbol came up, so i pressed select and it said
searching for satellite signal please wait [ similar to freesat box] and hour later it was still saying the same thing, it was'nt detecting the sat signal, so im left with the free to air service and no freesat , anybody got any ideas.
Also if i do get the freesat working, will i be able to scan for none freesat ie SKY news etc, i dont think this new SONY gives that option
    Any insight would be appreciated

    Scruffy,
Do a factory reset on the TV and then on inital set up choose UK and not ireland, then auto tune the freesat tuner and it should be ok.
You will not receive Sky News via the freesat tuner. BBC News is there thou.....

Don't forget to input a UK post code, If your satellite signal is not excellent, I have found that the TV will not scan on Freesat, but will on FTA.

    regards,

    regards,

Am getting 76 db on a promax meter and on the fta true movies and everything else is perfect but you could still have a point.

Factory settings on a KDL-W5810 is Home-Settings-Setup-then scroll down to factory settings.
It might be different on your model. Check instuction manual

I rang SONY IRELAND they had'nt a clue and UK was'nt much better but the
UK sony guy did say there was no factory reset on that model and that the AUTO install UK was the only way , i might realign the dish but as i say im
getting every fta channel when i select IRELAND on the auto install.

But scart can you scan non freesat channels after the freesat set up is done.
This can be done easily on the LG'S , which i think are much more user
    friendly than the SONY .

Cant see any option on the KDL-W5810 to scan for non freesat channels after freesat setup is complete.
There was a firmware update issued for your model on 18/02/2010. You could try updating and see if it improves the situation. You will need a USB stick.

Let us know how you get on

TKS , Its for a customer, will be back there friday to have another look at it
and will let you know. I think in UK not so much of an issue as they get SKY news through there freeview . maybe sony never thought of the non freesat,
If you pick Ireland on install you can select 4 satellites so i guise it must have a built in diasect switch built in

Had the same problem with a Humax in the past, couldn't find a sat signal. Took it to my brothers house it installed no problem. Worked ok when I reattached it to my dish.

The only real difference between his setup and mine is the dish, he has a standard Sky Zone 2 dish, I have a T90 Torodial pulling loads of signal.

What size dish are you using, possibly try another dish or maybe stick an attenautor between the dish and receiver during setup.

In the UK setting you get freesat with MHEG-5 7/8 day EPG.

In a non UK setting you get FTA Sat with DiSEqC 1.0, no freesat epg as MHEG-5 appears to be enabled only in the UK setting. The lack of MHEG-5 also means no digital text on the Irish DTT channels.

If you use the UK setting with freesat enabled the Irish DTT channels are automatically placed in the 800's as they are seen as non UK/out of region channels, according to others here they can be manually placed from 001 upwards.

The LG LF7700's appears to be less hassle.

TKS, the dish is a 60cm sky dish , but i did have a similar problem with
a humax box , im back at that job on friday , ill unplug the TV and reconnect the sat lead maybe even realign the sat dish.I should be able to get the Freesat signal and scan after a bit of time, only issue ill have after that is that the customer also wanted the non freesat channels which it seems SONY dont offer with the freesat.

Have to say LG seems a much more user friendly freesat TV
Can't see why SONY couldn't have incorporated the freesat option and
the fta DISEqC 1.0 switch option within the installation.

Also, when you programme the sony tv with Freesat setup (UK) the turner only does UHF, no VHF, so where RTE is VHF no signal.
I know people will say digital RTE UHF, but this is not a full service yet, and trying to explain to customers is a pain.

    Regards,

    Regards,

Country profiles! Ridiculous in this day and age! I mean whats the harm in leaving them on!

The LG Lf7700s dont have this problem I gather or any of the following either through full compliance with ETSI/DVB standards (at half the price!) The UK DBook has a lot to answer for - just ask panasonic! Hopefully Sony didnt follow them with the Dbook spec as there will be a lot of hassle for installers trying to explain that "technically" its not meant to used in Ireland when RTE turn back on 0x16 on dvb-t and people lose their digital terrestrial stations!

dunno about the w5800's etc, but the z4500's work fine with irish dtt, whether 0x16 is switched on or off.

i got the 32" version of this telly just this week, seems as though you need to choose between FTA Ireland or Freesat UK, menus are abitch to use on this telly. still, at least we got HD, bbc and itv look incredible.

Thanks for posting, which country setting did you use? Where did you buy and how much?

570 with a "trade-in"(just used an old 14" telly that was lying around) in O'Callaghans or sony centre(same gang own both).

I initially set it to Ireland but found the channels to be messed up and didnt have ITV1 HD.

Now I have it on UK settings and im getting the Freesat service including ITV1 HD. However, i cant access some Free to Air channels that are not on the freesat service and I dont think I can tune them in manually and stay on the freesat service.

I love the telly but its not user friendly at all unfortunately.

Free-to-air mode with now and next epg info only I assume. I have a Humax iCord and tuned in ITV HD without a problem.

correct. the freesat epg has a more detailed epg however.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but my brother got a new tv recently and I took his old one off him sony kdl-40z5800.

Having some issues with the KDL-40Z5800 and wondered if anyone has any solutions?

Firstly, I plugged in the cable form the dish, and did a tune but wasn't given the option to select between FTA or Freesat.
As I only have now and next on the EPG I assume it's only FTA.

I did a factory reset and selected UK as location and did the satelite auto tune, but still doesn't ask me if I want FTA or Freesat.
As I still only get now and next on the EPG I assume it's only FTA.

Am I doing something wrong or does Freesat no longer work with this tele in Ireland?

Secondly, having major issues with the optical out. I am assuming it's a stupid sony thing as the PS3 I had was the same.
I have the optical cable going into the soundcard on my pc and the tv speakers turned off.
The issues I am having is for most channels I have to press the audio button a few times before I get any sound. Lets say it starts on dolby 2.0, I have to press it to standard 2.0 then back to dolby 2.0 and then it suddenly works.
Other channels this doesn't even work for so I get no sound. strange thing is though, if I select picture in picture the sound suddenly comes on, then if I switch back to single picture the sound remains until I change channel and then back to that one again and I once again have no sound.

This is annoying the hell out of me and would appreciate any help trying to solve this.

    Thanks,

    Mark.

Did factory reset and I can only choose UK but nowhere does it ask for postcode or freesat.

I am running the latest firmware, maybe they disabled the freesat options??

I did factory reset twice thinking I'd missed something, also ran the auto start up again just now and definitely nowhere to select postcode or freesat.
