Buying a new iPhone 3g 8gb

    Hopefully someone can help me on this

    If I was to purchase this now, which version of software would it be on it?
    Going by apple.com I get the impression it is on a version earlier than 3.0 -even new - as it says "find out how to get 3.0 for free" however this could be an old ad.

    I know all the 3gs now come with 3.1.3 - could all stock have been updated?

    I don't intend on staying with o2 very long and will be buying it on speakeasy. Hopefully it will not be on 3.1.3 so I can do what I want.

    And help would be hugely appreciated

    My maTe bought one on valentines day and it was on 3.1.2 . Hopefully it would be on that

    Thanks for the reply. Hopefully that will be the case so.

    It wouldn't be strange for me to ask the o2 store before I buy it, would it?
    The reason it's important is because it's a present for someone on meteor that will not change to any other network

    people in 02 store's ive been to havent had a clue about iphones , and they cant open the box i dont think well so they told me anyway .
    your best bet would be to check the serial number on the iphone i read over here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1390584.html that up to week 6 2010 iphones have been shipped wit 3.1.2

    Just a small update

    I bought it today and it was on version 3.1.3 - there seems to be ways around it so hopefully I'll be still able to unlock it for the 3g
